Don’t let asthma hold kids back!

Asthma WA's June Appeal

On a family trip to the local pool one day, mum of three Rael could barely speak she was so out of breath.  The next day she collapsed in the emergency department and very nearly died. Here is her story...

Looking back, Rael realised she had missed a lot of early warning signs. Some asthma attacks are sudden and some build gradually over days or weeks.  It got to the point she was having 14 puffs of her inhaler every hour just to get some air in her lungs.

“As a mother of three young children with asthma, this shook me to the core. If I couldn’t even manage my own asthma, how on earth was I going to protect my babies?”

Rael has lost count of the number of trips to the ED she has had with Hannah, Ethan and Isaac.

“I knew how quickly things could go bad and was constantly afraid for my kids. I just wanted them to have a normal life, but they were always at risk, leaving them to play with friends or family was terrifying.”

You can help give more parents like Rael support.

Finding Asthma WA became Rael’s life-line. Through generous donations from people just like you, Rael was able to find the help she needed to recognise and act on early warning signs and help protect her children from a severe attack.

You can read Rael’s full story here…

“I’ve since learnt that every parent wonders ‘Am I doing the right thing?’ ‘Should I call an ambulance? Or should I wait?’ and these are the questions Asthma WA helps answer. It’s truly been life-changing.”

Thank you to everyone who attended the Gratitude Art Exhibition for Asthma on Sunday 7th April. The event was a wonderful success thanks to the work of our tireless volunteer committee, led by long time supporter Suzannah Lowson who generously opened her home to us for the event. Hundreds of people attended on the day and supported Asthma WA by buying a piece of artwork, a raffle ticket and by taking their change with the raffle tree.

Special thanks to Audi Centre Perth for being the major event sponsor, Linton and Kay for pulling together such an amazing collection of artworks and over 20 artists who donated full or partial funds from the sale of their works.

If you would like to support Asthma WA by hosting your own event please contact us via marketing@asthmawa.org.au

Karridale to Augusta

A big thank you to the Munday family, the Leeuwin Lions Club and the greater Augusta community!

The Karridale to Augusta 15km walk & quiz night has raised nearly $7,000!!

Put it in your calendar for March next year, this is a great event with 25 participants on the walk and over 70 people at the quiz night.

Funds raised will go towards ‘Fallon’s Fund’ to provide vital access to medication for those who can’t afford it.

Fallon’s fund was lovingly created by the Munday family in memory of their daughter, Fallon Munday, who was only 21years old when she suddenly died from an acute asthma attack.

Thank you Keith for your extraordinary support for your community.

You are exceptional!
