Nearly 200 folks joined us last month via livestream from across the province or in-person in Victoria, BC for Physical Activity for All: Tools and Approaches for Equity in Active Communities. The evening was a great introduction to some of the tools communities can use to apply an equity lens to their physical activity planning. How to build connection in high-rise communitiesHow can residents living in high-rise buildings better connect with one another? A recent CBC story highlighted the link between isolation and high-rise living, reporting that high-rise dwellers experienced higher difficulty in making friends and knowing their neighbours than those in other building types. Through a PlanH grant, the City of Vancouver has been working to help residents living in higher density buildings to connect through design improvements and social programs. What's most important to rural communities in BC?Earlier this year, the Government of British Columbia consulted rural communities across the province to hear about the most vital supports required to support rural community development. Many of the themes—including transportation and recreation infrastructure, as well as reconciliation with Indigenous communities—relate to issues of health and equity. This November, BC Healthy Communities' Healthy Community Planner Sandy Mackay attended the Making the Links: Climate Change, Community Health & Resilience Symposium in Kelowna.
