We are beyond thrilled and thankful to be able to continue our mission at UDA and IDEATE. It was wonderful to have the support and attendance of both new and returning families at the meeting. Thank you to Ms. McGreevy, Señora Kennedy, and Mr. Baldan for their eloquent speaking in front of the Board, and congratulations to Ariana P. (8th), Adam C. (9th), and Jasmine H. (9th) on their courage and heartfelt speeches that evening. Cheers to another 5 years! Gala Auction/Raffle SurveyThanks to your input, we are ready to begin planning this year’s “Sky’s the Limit” themed Gala! We are grateful that so many families shared their thoughts in the previous survey regarding the gala theme, and are reaching out again to get your opinions. In previous years, our families, students, staff, and community members secured numerous gift donations to auction at the Gala. We would like to find a way to simplify the process and make things easier for everyone. This year, would you prefer to reach out to local businesses and community partners again to secure auction basket items? Or, instead of auction baskets, would you prefer to sell tickets for ONE grand scale raffle: a new car raffle. Please take a moment to complete this survey. Your voice and vote matter! Wednesday ProgrammingThe second trimester of Wednesday Programming is off to an enriching start as students enhance their coding, piano, art, performance, stretching, cardiovascular, and karate skills. IDEA1 Grand Opening EventIt was great to see our families, staff, and community members last Thursday at the grand opening of our newest downtown neighbor, IDEA1. All proceeds from the event were donated to The UDA Foundation! Holiday GramsSpread some holiday cheer this season by purchasing a Holiday Gram from the ASB for $1 each. Grams will be sold before and after school this week until Thursday afternoon, and delivered to their recipients on Friday. Jog-A-ThonMark your calendar with this year’s Jog-A-Thon event, held on Wednesday, February 7. Registration details will be shared soon. Students interested in entering the Jog-A-Thon T-Shirt Design Competition may work on their designs from now through the end of December, and voting will take place after winter break to determine the school favorite. The t-shirt should include our school name, school year, and title of the event- the rest is up to our students’ imagination! The design should be appropriate for the front of a t-shirt. Submit entries to Ms. Jelena on an 8½” x 11” sheet. Library Grand OpeningThank you for your patience as we resorted shelving, books, and materials following library construction this fall. The library, aka The Stack, is set to officially open for book check-outs in January! Stay tuned for more information about the library schedule and next steps. Re-Enrollment for UDA & ID8Re-enrollment for the 2018-2019 school year is now open for our current UDA and IDEATE families. All current students are exempt from the lottery and guaranteed a spot, including 8th graders attending 9th grade at IDEATE. If your child will return to an Urban Discovery Academy school next year, please sign in using your SchoolMint account and complete the intent to re-enroll form. Re-enrollment must be completed by February 1, 2018. Failure to do so may result in the forfeiture of your child’s spot at UDA. Remember, if you plan to enroll the sibling of a current student next year, you must still submit an application for that student through SchoolMint. Sibling priority will still apply. Visual ArtsIn Visual Arts, students are developing their sketching skills through paper and pencil drawings of their classmates.
