The warmer weather and longer days can only mean one thing - racing season is upon us! I hope that you tuned into the quick (and slightly disorganized) Facebook live we held on Wednesday, but if not...here's the scoop... There is obviously no virtual banquet, because otherwise, I'd hope you'd be watching that, rather than reading the Squeal (sorry Jake). BUT, instead, we're going to do something different. The first event scheduled for the paved lot at the Farm Show at Elmerton won't be a traditional Autocross event. Instead, we're doing a Susquehanna Region Opener. We're going to limit the people eligible to attend to Susquehanna Region members, as well as trophy winners from 2020. I'll be sending an email to everyone who will be receiving a trophy (just in case you were on the fence about attending). What's more - if you've never Autocrossed before and you're interested in trying it, now is the time! We're going to make sure that we have some Autocross cars available for anyone interested to try their hand at "crossing" on the pavement. We hope to see all of our Rallycrossers try the pavement and leave with clean cars. Later in the season, our plan is to have our "clean" Autocrossers try their skills in the dirt at a Rallycross event. Someone named these events "The Criss-Cross" which I just love! I want to see the Region come together as a REGION, not people who do different types of racing within the Region. The schedule is out! If you look at the bottom of the email, you'll be able to see all of the available dates we have for all of our programs. Registration will be open for these events in very short order, so keep your eyes out. I can't wait to see you all in a few short weeks! Keep it class Susquehanna Susquehanna Region Opener - April 10 Instead of doing a virtual banquet this year - we've decided to host a Region Opener at the first event on the paved lot at the Farm Show Elmerton Lot. We want to celebrate everyone in the Region together! So here are the details -
Most importantly - just because this event is being held at the paved lot, does not mean we're excluding the Rallycrossers! Bring your Rallycross car out, or if that's not an option, let us know and we'll make arrangements to have some Autocross cars available for you to give pavement a try. We hope to see you there - we look forward to starting the season out with a bang!...(and free lunch, and trophies) This event is set to only allow Susquehanna Members to attend. If you won a trophy for the 2020 season, but your Region of Record isn't Susquehanna Region, please email registration@scca-susq.com and we will get you registered for the event. The Time Has Finally Come... By Nick Landis, Rallycross/Rallysprint Chief Hello my friends, I hope that you are all as excited as I am. We are finally starting to see some warmer temperatures and the snow is gone (mostly). This can only mean one thing for us in the Susquehanna region, IT’S RACE SEASON!! The time has come that we can officially release the RallyCross season to you all. We have 7 events scheduled this season for the Farm Show Complex venue in Harrisburg, Pa with the first one on April 17th. The dates are as follows: · April 17th We are also excited to announce the first ever RallySprint for our region on April 3rd. The registration is currently open, but limited to logbooked stage rally vehicles. The registration is also open for the volunteers. This will give you a very interesting view of the course and the competition. We are also offering a free lunch for all of the volunteers as a small thank you for your time. I hope that all of you have been taking care of your vehicles and are ready for the upcoming season. I can’t wait to see all of my friends (all of you) in the dirt this season! Susquehanna Road Racers Soldier On in 2020 By Alan Lesher, Susquehanna Region Treasure(r) SCCA road racing was as challenged as other sports last year; and it had a late start in the northeast in 2020. The records are sparse; but here are some highlights from last year. At the Pitt Race Majors, three region drivers drove their way to the podium. Don Walsh won first place in E/Production. Ryan Heishman achieved a pair of 3rd places in Spec Miata. Don March competed in Touring 3 and a pair of 2nd places was his reward. No other Susquehanna region drivers were listed on other close-by Majors results. No region members placed at the runoffs. There were several region drivers who competed in the Middle Atlantic Road Racing Series at Summit Point and New Jersey. Chuck Buczeski competed in Improved Touring S, with a second place and a pair of third places. Shaoyi Che drove in Super Touring L and had one first and one second place finish. Daniel Liklider drove his American Sedan to a second place finish. James Roberts drove his Spec. Miata to a first and 2 second place results. If any drivers were missed, I apologize for the oversight. Results were "skimpy" and/or not available. It is late winter, there are engines to re-build, suspensions to re-engineer & tires to mount. Best of luck to ALL Susquehanna Region drivers in 2021. Carlisle Import & Performance Nationals By Alan Lesher, Susquehanna Region Treasurer Carlisle Productions will be holding their Import and Performance show May 14 & 15. There is a race car show as well; and it is hosted by the Pennsylvania Hillclimb Association (PHA). This organization is made up of SCCA regions in the mid-Atlantic area, and Susquehanna Region is member of PHA. The show is open to any race car, not only import and hillclimb cars. After talking with PHA leadership, they will be happy to have Susquehanna Region members show their cars. So, if anyone wants to display an autocross, rallycross or stage rally car, please sign up on the Carlisle Productions web site. March Regional MeetingMarch 25, 2021 - at 7:00pm - NEW TIME! Our next meeting will be held on the second floor at Appalachian Brewing Company, 50 N. Cameron Street, Harrisburg, PA 17101. All members are encouraged to attend. Come an hour early for dinner (and a drink) with other members.
