We open this week's Defence Week with the news that DARPA, the US defence research agency, has called for proposals for the second stage of its swarm program. The steady progression of swarm technology raises the question of whether RAN should factor possible future acquisitions of direct energy systems into its decisions on the Future Frigate.
In other news, a prototype KC-390 overcomes a mishap, Navantia partners with Hofmann Engineering on the Future Frigate, Kleos Space chooses Australia for its first move abroad, the UK changes its mind again on the Boxer, and we cover Honeywell's participation in the Iridium satellite upgrade.
For those who might have missed the news, Patrick Durrant has moved to a new role with the NSW Government and left me to fill in his rather large shoes here at ADM's Sydney office. I'm looking forward to the challenge of covering Australia's exciting defence sector and to meeting some of our subscribers at ADM's events. If you'd like to get in touch, feel free to send me an email or give me a call.
