Your monthly all staff email! Get ready for a Xmas treat!Hi there,I’d like to start with a welcome to all our new student staff who have completed their inductions and training over the past few weeks, and are now up and running in their new roles. I hope you have all settled in really well and are enjoying being part of the team! I joined the Students’ Union myself in June as the new Head of Finance & Business Reporting and have loved the variety that working here brings. With the festive season in full swing and Christmas break just around the corner, I want to encourage you all to attend the Student Staff Christmas Party on Sunday 8 December. It starts in Tommy’s Kitchen at 7pm with some food and drink provided by us. It’s a great opportunity to have fun with colleagues that work in other services that you may not see very often, and more importantly for us to thank you for your hard work and get the permanent staff team behind the bar! Finally, a little Christmas treat for you all. December payday will be on the slightly earlier date of 20 December 2019, just in time for some last minute Christmas shopping! Katie Marriner Sabbatical Officers The Sabbs will be continuing their voting drive as the General Election looms ever closer. You'll soon be seeing them trying out for an Oscar award in an Election campaign and a Christmas video, which they'll be filming next Monday and Tuesday, so bear with them if they take a little bit longer to reply to any emails, and watch out for those videos coming soon! Venues It's been great to welcome all the new members of the team and to see how everyone has been settling in fantastically, so keep it up! To anyone working at The Packhorse in the coming weeks, please be aware that your tasks during a shift might be slightly different as we start with all of the Christmas bookings! This means you'll be providing table service and a completely different menu, so if you have any doubts, please speak to a manager and they'll be able to brief you. Retail Congratulations to all the new recruits who have just finished their inductions! Some student staff have just recently started their shifts, so it's important that everyone continues to show their support and help anyone that you see needs a hand. We're also excited to announce that interviews for Supervisors and Duty Managers have just finished and we will soon be announcing the successful candidates. Student Opportunities In the run up to Christmas, the Opps team will be keeping their main focus on trying to make improvements to our Advice Centre triage service. Unfortunately, one of the Union buses is in repair, so the Night Bus service may become a little bit busier than usual! Student Voice Like a lot of us this month, our wonderful Student Voice team will be preparing for the General Election as well as helping coordinate activities during polling day. Nominations for the SU Elections open on Friday 6 December, and we encourage our members of staff to run for one of the Sabbatical Officer roles! Marketing & Communications The Marcomms squad is finally complete! We're delighted to announce that Marcelina and Eleanor have joined the team as HouseSearch Assistants, while Katherine is our new Market Day Assistant. They've started off really well and we look forward to working with them for the rest of the year! Finance and Human Resources Our HR team have been busy with so many new recruits, but everyone has now had a working shift, been invited to their mandatory training and had their first pay! With us bringing payday forward to 20 December, it's important to note that only shifts up until 18 December will be included in your next payslip, with anything from 19 December paid to you in January. A massive thank you! As a Students' Union, all the work we do is based on five main values: Brave, Student Focused, High Quality, Inclusive and Trustworthy. Every single month we have outstanding staff that work extremely hard, ensuring that these values are represented across all sectors of the Union. Because of this we introduced the Values Rewards - a £5 gift voucher to spend in any of our venues, to say thank you for your hard work. This month, we've given Values Rewards to staff members within the Union Shop and Student Voice - you can check them all out below! Thank you for helping us make student life better at Royal Holloway. And finally... Who knew that tinsel and reindeer horns could become such a MUST-have fashion accessory this Christmas? Well, apparently the Union Shop staff did, as they've been rocking their festive uniforms this month. Seriously team, you look too cute to handle! |
