Media release: New service to support people after an attempted suicide in Sydney
Today, Central and Eastern Sydney PHN is announcing a new after care coordinated support service that will support people after an attempted suicide. Following a competitive tender process, Central and Eastern Sydney PHN have selected Neami National to deliver a coordinated assertive aftercare service in the central and eastern Sydney region.

Forum: Referral Pathways under the NDIS Early Childhood Early Intervention Approach
The purpose of this forum is to continue the dialogue started at the ECIA NSW/ACT Regional Forums, focused on building strong referral pathways under the NDIS ECEI approach. The forum will include panels and Q and A sessions with a focus on generating practical solutions to developing and strengthening referral pathways in the ECEI context.

Free self-empowerment program for women who have left abusive relationships
Burwood Community Welfare Services will be running After the Storm, a six-week self-empowerment program supporting women who have left an abusive relationship. The aim will be to build a safe platform for learning about dynamics and cycles of abuse as well as strategies for protection and self-care.The program is free of charge.

A major HIV prevention milestone
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee has made the decision to recommend the listing of HIV Pre Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) on the PBS for HIV prevention. Clinical trials have shown that PrEP is highly effective at preventing HIV transmission. Click here to view a PrEP fact sheet.

Go4Fun 2018 term one has started!
Go4Fun is a ten-week healthy lifestyle program running across NSW for kids aged 7 to 13 years, delivered by qualified health professionals. Sessions are held after school, one a week running parallel to school terms. It aims to improve the health of the child through the development of healthy lifestyle behaviours as well as positively affecting kids' attitude to food and exercise. Click here to view the flyer.

Liver cirrhosis toolkit
Diagnosis of cirrhosis can be scary and this new booklet helps clinical staff support patients. The aim is to help people better understand what is happening so that they can make the best decisions for treatment and health. The booklet was developed with the involvement of various clinicians and, most importantly, people affected by liver cirrhosis/transplant.

UNSW 'Mobile Application for People with Gout' study
A clustered randomised trial is being conducted by UNSW researchers aiming to evaluate the usefulness of a mobile app to achieve target serum urate concentrations in people with gout. Sydney-based GPs who have seen patients with gout in the last year are invited to participate. Participants will receive a $300 voucher. Q fever: new online learning module now available for GPs
The 'Q Fever - Early Diagnosis and Vaccination' online learning module is now available for GPs. This two-hour course is accredited with the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) for two CPD points and is now available online. The module is free for ACRRM members and RRMEO subscribers.

St George Hospital Early Pregnancy Assessment Service
Women experiencing vaginal bleeding during the first trimester of pregnancy may attend this service. Please encourage women to attend on time at 8 am or they may have to return the following day. For significant pain or vaginal bleeding, please refer to the Emergency Department.

ESSA members and accredited professionals who are working as exercise professionals are invited to provide their feedback to help inform the future direction of the Adult Pre-exercise Screening Tool. The survey closes on Friday 16 March 2018.

Support services for health practitioners
The Pharmacists' Support Service (PSS) provides a helpline to support all Australian pharmacists, pharmacy interns and pharmacy students at times when they are distressed and need to talk to someone who understands pharmacy. Support is provided over the telephone by trained volunteers who are all pharmacists or retired pharmacists. Callers can remain anonymous and the service is confidential.

Smart Eating Week is run by Accredited Practicing Dietitians and supported by the Dietitians Association of Australia. It takes place from 12-18 February. Smart eating is a means to good nutrition and a key step towards better health for everyone.
