I know that sounds weird since we only had 2 events before this one due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So, this one will be a little different. We decided that since 2020 has been such a train-wreck and has put many individuals and families through some very difficult times, we would make this event a charity event to benefit local families and individuals by joining up with the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. All of the profits from the event and all of the money collected from the “silliness” portion will be donated to the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. If we manage to fill up registration to capacity, we will raise at least $1000 for the charity, but I don’t feel that is enough and I would like to see us raise closer to $3000. The food bank has decided to no longer accept canned goods donations for a few reasons, some due to COVID-19 and some not, but they informed me that for every $1 raised they can purchase $6 in food from their distributors. So, if we manage to raise $3000, that equals $18,000 in food and that will feed a lot of deserving families for the upcoming holidays. Since it is a week before Halloween we will be holding a “costume” contest with a sweet prize for the best vehicle costume as well as the best human costume. Now back to the rest of the event, the morning will be a normal points event and we will have 3 runs. After that we will proceed with the “silliness” portion of the day. If time allows, we will be offering “fun runs” at the end of the day for $1 per run. This will be your opportunity to swap vehicles or try out new techniques. AX Spooktacular Season Ender - 10/31 - 11/1By Melissa Mauro We’re looking forward to ending our season with our Scary Solo event (points event #9) on Saturday, the 31st. Our final event (points event #10) will be on Sunday, 11/1, followed by our Monster Match Tour style elimination runs. Between the two days, you’ll be guaranteed at least 10 runs! Since we’re going to be racing on Halloween, we’re also encouraging everyone to dress up in costumes (themselves and their cars). We’re going to be awarding prizes for the winners of “Best Human Costume” and “Best Car Costume” during the event on Saturday. Feel free to get creative, and have fun. Please just make sure that if you decorate your car, it will be safe to run the course, or it can be easily removed before it’s your turn to run. If you have no interest in dressing yourself or your car up, but you’ll be attending the event on Saturday, we need your help! We’d like to get 3 judges for the event to help us determine the best costumes. If you can please email me at mmauro@scca-susq.com, that you’re interested, that would be great! The events will be capped at 110 participants each day, so make sure to register for the events soon! We hope to see you there and help us celebrate the end of our season! Dodging (Dust) LandminesBy Nick Landis Well, what can I say about the last event? It was dusty, but also rainy and it defied the laws of physics by never allowing the course to get muddy. Our last event we managed to attract 47 competitors and quite a few of them were new faces to not only our region, but to the sport entirely. I asked everyone to pray to the rain gods and they delivered (sorta) in the morning which gave us a little reprieve from a bad case of “brown lung”. We got 6 runs in the morning and due to the rain, the only issue we experienced was the dust plumes clinging to our windows. After lunch the rain went away and the dust exploded from everywhere like landmines exploding all around the vehicles on every corner for all 4 runs. We managed to only have 2 casualties due to the dust, Alan Gouker found out that placing your air filter in the front bumper turns it into a vacuum cleaner and caused his vehicle to lose power only to find out after the event that he had mud in his injectors. Eric Ford lost his right front wheel well liner, Subarus like to eject this one a lot, and his air filter started to implode due to the heavy amount of fine dust that his turbo attempted to suck through the filter element. Overall, it was a good day of tough and friendly competition and everyone, including the 2020 Subaru, had fun with their cars. Now we can look forward to our next event scheduled for October 24th back at the Farm Show venue. Be sure to check out the details on this one as it promises to be one to remember (in a good way and not like the rest of 2020).
