Gateway-2-Health is a monthly newsletter delivering project updates and key information on the Health Gateway to Industry Schools project being delivered by CheckUP. Our project team will work closely with Queensland schools and health industry employers to promote career pathways and support students' understanding of the varied and in-demand roles in the health sector. We will also help to facilitate learning and experiential opportunities for both students and teachers.

CheckUP commenced delivery of the Health Gateway to Industry Schools project in April 2020. The team spent the initial months planning and establishing our approach while navigating restrictions imposed by COVID-19. With these restrictions gradually being eased, our team has commenced engagement with schools, training organisations and industry providers (while abiding with social distancing requirements!) to devise health career pathways and immersive learning opportunities for students of future Health Gateway Schools. The project receives direction and guidance from a highly engaged Industry Reference Group (IRG) which includes representation from both the private and public sectors
of education, training and healthcare services. This group meets online every six weeks and includes sector leaders such as Queensland Health, TAFE Queensland and Queensland Catholic Education among others.
The project aims to link a wide network of schools, health service providers, training organisations and also tertiary education institutions in creating comprehensive pathways for school students interested in a rewarding career in the health sector.
As part of CheckUP's engagement approach, a statement outlining potential benefits to partners participating in the Health Gateway project has been developed. Click the link below to view the Partner Benefits Statement.
Queensland schools currently offering health qualifications as part of their VET program, or planning to do so in the near future, are invited to apply to the Health Gateway project. Health Gateway Schools will enable access to career pathway resources, vocational and experiential learning opportunities and professional development and capability building workshops for staff. CheckUP will also assist in connecting schools with the health industry, engaging with local health providers to identify potential learning and training opportunities. This is likely to vary between each Health Gateway School. We look forward to receiving your
application!

Choose Your Own Health Career
A dedicated Health Gateway to Industry Schools website is currently being developed. It will contain all relevant project information, news on participating schools, key milestones and project outcomes, as well as resources developed for schools. These resources are intended to support career guidance for Queensland students, parents and guidance officers. In the meantime, we encourage you to visit the Choose Your Own (CYO) Health Career website, which CheckUP developed in partnership with Queensland Health.
It contains key information on the wide range of career opportunities available in the health sector - beyond just doctors and nurses. This includes allied health, pharmacy, sterilisation and also operational roles like business administration and trades. To learn more, visit the CYO website by clicking the link below.
