Once service, two sites service to benefit patients The merging of Wards 6A and 6B at Dunedin hospital has been celebrated with an official opening and afternoon tea. The merger, which is part of ‘Shaping Services – Pathway for the Future’, is an important step in developing a one service, two site Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation (ATR) service for current Dunedin and Wakari Hospital Disability Support Services patients. "The ultimate aim is to make a difference for our patients and to support older people and those with disabilities to live well in their homes and communities, by providing sustainable, appropriate ‘right time, right place’ specialist AT&R services,” says Southern DHB Nurse Manager Sharron Feist. The wards have been aligned with one ward reception area and one multidisciplinary station, and the two nursing, medical and allied health teams from Wards 6A and 6B have merged to be Ward 6ATR.
