UOW a global leader for social and economic impact
 

13th in the world in inaugural THE University Impact Rankings

 

The University of Wollongong has been ranked equal 13th in the world, and second in Australia, in the first ever THE University Impact Rankings.


The new impact rankings demonstrate the difference the University is making to the world we live in and the positive impact it is delivering to communities locally, nationally and globally.


More than 500 institutions from 75 countries across six continents took part in the new rankings The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings measure universities’ social and economic impact based on their success in delivering outcomes addressing the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

UOW an engineering leader in global subject rankings
 

Traditional and emerging strengths shine in 2019 QS World Rankings by Subject

 

UOW has cemented its place among the world’s leading engineering universities in the prestigious Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject.


UOW improved its ranking in Mining Engineering to 17th in the world and sixth in Australia, and also took its place among the world’s top 100 universities for Materials Science and Civil Engineering, ranking fourth and equal seventh in Australia respectively for those disciplines.

UGPN conference highlights global impact of research collaborations
 

Forum brings together academics from four continents to explore joint research projects and other opportunities


UOW attended the 2019 University Global Partnership Network (UGPN) conference in Raleigh, North Carolina, last month (April). The annual conference brings together leaders and academics from UGPN’s four member institutions – North Carolina State University, University of São Paulo, University of Surrey, and UOW. 

 

This year’s themes were: Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Big Data and Data Science; One Health and Global Health; and Sustainable and Smart Cities, with workshops held on each of those themes.

UOW improves standing among Asia-Pacific universities
 

A positive result in 2019 Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific rankings


UOW  has improved its standing among universities in the Asia-Pacific region, ranking 37th in the 2019 Times Higher Education Asia-Pacific University Rankings – an improvement of four places from its 2018 result of 41st.


The regional improvement has also been reflected locally, with UOW improving two places in its ranking among the Australian universities assessed.

Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program launches in Australia
 

English Premier League football club partners with University of Wollongong

 

Tottenham Hotspur Football Club and the University of Wollongong will pioneer the next generation of football talent in Australia with a new player development program offered for five years at the University’s Wollongong campus.


The UOW Tottenham Hotspur Global Football Program, will see two FA & UEFA qualified Tottenham Hotspur coaches train participating University of Wollongong students for 36 weeks a year at its picturesque Wollongong campus, located just south of Sydney.

Report shows how UOW research impacts Australia and the world
 

Engagement and Impact assessment reveals economic, health, environmental and social benefits of research


The Australian Research Council’s inaugural Engagement and Impact assessment, released by Australian Federal Minister for Education the Hon. Dan Tehan MP, provides insight into the many ways that University of Wollongong research benefits the region, the nation and the world.

 

UOW was one of only five universities to receive a high rating of impact for its case studies in environmental sciences, and history and archaeology; and one of only six to receive a high rating of impact for its Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander case study.

UOW graduation in Singapore
 

Students celebrate their graduation at the Singapore Institute of Management

 

More than 350 UOW graduates were awarded a range of degrees from the Faculty of Engineering and Information Sciences and Faculty of Social Sciences. These included the Bachelor of Business Information Systems, Bachelor of Computer Science, Bachelor of Information Technology, Bachelor of Science (Psychology) and Bachelor of Psychological Science (Honours).


UOW has been offering degrees in partnership with SIM for almost 15 years and the positive experience of the many students who celebrated is a testament to this long-standing relationship.

Celebrating UOW graduates in Malaysia
 

More than 308 students celebrated their graduation at ceremonies in Malaysia

 

The ceremonies were held last month (April) at INTI International College Penang, with more than 180 UOW students graduating with a Bachelor of Commerce. 

 

INTI International University and Colleges Subang Jaya and Kuala Lumpur held a joint ceremony with over 200 students graduating from a range of UOW degrees. 

 

UOW currently has 1200 students enrolled in UOW degrees in Malaysia.

China study abroad visit
 

A group of 65 students arrive to study abroad at UOW Wollongong Campus

 

The very first cohort of students studying at UOW’s offshore operation UOW - Central China Normal University Joint Institute, arrived for one semester this Autumn session. 


The group of students will experience academic culture and student life at the Wollongong Campus, as well as Australian culture in their time here. The exchange will further promote student flows between UOW’s main campuses and its offshore locations.

UOW signs first Student Mobility Agreement in Israel with The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
 

An exciting opportunity to further link UOW to the rest of the world

 

Professor Oron Shagrir, Vice President for International Affairs at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem visited UOW earlier this year and signed a student mobility agreement which is the first for UOW in Israel. The Hebrew University of Jerusalem has recently joined the international collaboration Campus for Research Excellence and Technology Enterprise (CREATE), which houses research centres set up by top universities around the globe.
