The Prevention and Early Intervention division is hosting a screening of the documentary Paper Tigers in an effort to bring awareness to the long-term effects of adverse childhood experiences. You won’t want to miss the screening on September 28, 7:00-9:00 PM, at the Partners in Prevention Conference.
Set within and around the campus of Lincoln Alternative High School in the rural community of Walla Walla, Washington, Paper Tigers asks the following questions: What does it mean to be a trauma-informed school? And how do you educate teens whose childhood experiences have left them with a brain and body ill-suited to learn? Armed with their own cameras and their own voices, the teens of Paper Tigers offer raw but valuable insight into the hearts and minds of teens pushing back against the specter of a hard childhood. More about the film here.
This stirring documentary tugs on the common threads that run through early childhood and youth development work. Due to its length (102 minutes), the film will not be shown in its entirety. Youth advocate and Texas Home Visiting project manager, Courtney Seals, will facilitate a talk-back immediately following the screening. Popcorn and beverages will be served.
Conference registration will open in early August.
