March 2019 Addressing Metro Area's Growing Demand For PathwaysFrom west to east and north to south across the Atlanta metropolitan region, demand for multi-use pathways is growing. While the Atlanta BeltLine has gotten the most national attention, other cities in the region are making strides as well. Alpharetta's Alpha Loop, Chamblee's Rail Trail, and Cobb County's Greenways and Trails Plan all address the growing demand from residents for alternative transportation options. Getting around the region isn't the only result of increased trail demand. The current Chattahoochee RiverLands project seeks to improve connections from the core of the region to other parts too, as well as raise public awareness and build on a legacy of ecological conservation and protection. Follow the link below to read about a recent acquisition by the PATH Foundation they hope will also assist in job creation in the region. Green Communities SpotlightMeasure 47: Bicycle Friendly Community Designation The League of American Bicyclists has designated the City of Roswell a Bike Friendly Community at the Bronze level. Bike Friendly Communities are evaluated for the five E's: engineering, education, encouragement, enforcement, and evaluation. (This is similar to the Safe Routes to Schools program.) Bronze is the first of five certification levels designated by the Bike Friendly Communities program. The City of Decatur is also a certified Bronze Bike Friendly Community as well as a Silver Walk Friendly Community. The University of North Carolina's Highway Safety Research Center awarded this certification to Decatur based on the city's outreach efforts, crossing guard programs, parking management, and evaluation of existing conditions.
