UCON is partnering with Fisher Phillips to provide CA union contractors with important information related to employer responsibilities and potential liabilities related to the vaccine. New Priority: California Shifts from Tiered System to Age-Based Vaccination Distribution Plan. You may recall that the state originally developed a tiered system. It specifically identified construction as an industry in line for priority. That is changing. As of now, the state is going to focus on getting through the Phase 1A and Phase 1B Tier 1 and then move to age-based. Under the original plan, our industry was designated as Phase 1B Tier 2, so the tier system, effectively, no longer applies to construction or most other industries. The Administration believes that an aged-based system will roll out the vaccine faster than the tier-structured system for our industry and those in our same tier category and beyond. Beginning March 15, the Administration will also open COVID vaccinations to people under the age of 65 with disabilities or high-risk health conditions. Knowledge is Power. Educating Employees About the Vaccine. Recent reports identified construction workers as amongst the least likely to seek vaccination. The confusion and lack of clarity around COVID-19 vaccinations can cause misinformation to spread quickly. One effective way contractors can help safely and responsibly encourage vaccination is to share important facts and accurate information about the vaccine with employees.
Help Employees Understand Where and When They Can Get Vaccinated. We are encouraging members and their teams to visit https://www.vaccinateca.com/ which allows individuals to find out where they can get vaccinated based on their location, age, and demographics. VaccinateCA.com is a privately-run site (non-government) and is currently the most up-to-date and efficient way for individuals to get accurate vaccine location Status of Jobsite Vaccinations. UCON is working to get more information from the Administration regarding opportunities for jobsite vaccinations, knowing that supplies are currently limited in CA and that they are moving to age-based. In addition, we are reaching out to Labor partners and others to assess the feasibility of sponsoring third parties for vaccination services. As the vaccine becomes more readily available through pharmacies, healthcare facilities, and more, jobsite vaccinations will become less pressing. However, we continue to advocate for the industry in this space, given how many essential workers we represent collectively throughout the state. As a reminder, we encourage you to join UCON’s March 1 employer webinar on COVID vaccines. As always, this webinar is offered at no cost to our members.
