STORIES FROM THE JOURNEYS

Mentees Pitch Their Media Projects

Podcasts, Videos & Pitches from the Next Generation of Creatives

In our Fall 2025 Cycle, mentors and mentees in the Perspectives on Media Journey flexed their creative skills in video editing, podcasting, and graphic design as they developed original multimedia work. Each mentee worked on a project that they were personally passionate about, from a podcast that teaches English to non-native speakers to a video series about the love lives of artists.

LIFE@GWN

“I think we often put ourselves into labeled boxes instead of seeing the many sections of our lives…”

Mentor Mariah Dwyer & Mentee Kei Klien

Each Black History Month, we highlight the empowering work our mentors do year-round to foster creativity, self-confidence, and advancement for young, Black writers. Mariah, a Girls Write Now mentee in 2014, returned this year as a mentor to help young writers like her find their way. Over the last year, she and her mentee Kei have swapped stories, bonded over the Interview with the Vampire TV show, and grown together through mutual support. For this issue of Life@GWN, they share the writers that inspire them, make them feel seen, and teach them about loving themselves and the world around them.
