GPERS keepers and expansion
The General Practitioner Exercise Referral Scheme (GPERS) provides professional exercise programs prescribed by an exercise physiologist following an initial assessment and a referral from a GP. The program is in its twelfth year and is still achieving great results in the Sutherland Shire and St George region, with expansion on the horizon following investigation into lifestyle modification programs in the central and eastern Sydney region. Pregnancy and the pelvic floor
Pregnancy and childbirth are known to increase the risk of incontinence. One third of women experience urinary incontinence and approximately a tenth experience faecal incontinence after childbirth. Women who engage in pelvic floor exercises during pregnancy report fewer symptoms of urinary incontinence after giving birth. Pelvic floor exercises both during pregnancy and after delivery can prevent and treat urinary incontinence. Click here to read more
