CyberSecurity Awareness Month Continues

October is National CyberSecurity Awaareness Month (NCSAM) and throughout the month, ITS Security will be providing tips and tricks for staying safe online. This week's topic is protecting yourself from phishing or other email scams. Be wary of  unsolicited emails with links that ask you to confirm or upgrade your account, include unexpected attachments, or try to scare you into taking urgent action. Be suspicious of unsolicited job offers or business opportunites that sound too good to be true or request you to cash checks and wire money to a third party. Suspicious emails can be forwarded to abuse@memphis.edu.For more information on using email safety, please visit www.memphis.edu/its/security/phishing.php

TIGUrS Garden Sweet Potato Pull

TIGUrS Garden 5th Annual Sweet Potato Pull - Luscious, organically-grown sweet potatoes have been working hard underground since late last spring and are now excitedly anticipating going homme with you. But you have to dig them up! It's messy and fun, eventually....tasty! If you have a garden trowel and/or pruning shears, please bring them. Also, be certain to wear comfortable clothing that can stand to get filthy and don't forget to bring a bottle of water. TIGUrS will also be digging up sunchoke, tumeric, and a tiny bit of ginger.

Zoo Boo

Civic Engagement Board will be hosting an event at the Memphis Zoo called "Zoo  Boo". Volunteers will be handing out candy, being a mascot, assisting with hayrides, our corn maze and much more.Volunteers are allowed to come in costume, as long as they are not too scary or provocative. All positions are assigned at the time off arrival! FREE TIGER EARS AND SHIRTS WILL BE PROVIDED!

Works in Progress Symposium October 30th! Showcase your Research Today!

Works In Progress Symposium (WIPS), is just around the corner! WIPS is an annual event that features 15-minute oral presentations by students who are currently conducting research on campus. Research does not have to be complete, it can be a "work in progress" or even a research proposal. The deadline for submissions is October 13th.

Are you a UofM undergraduate and graduate student looking for the oppurtunity to present or add a line to their CV? The UofM Libraries and Helen Hardin Honors College present NEDxStudents, a two-day event which allows students to share their recent research in engaging and entertaining 15-minute presentations. A panel of judges made up of UofM faculty will choose one presentation each day as a winner. Each winner will recieve a $250 cash prize provided by the Helen Hardin Honors program. Spirit Service Trip! Memphis vs.Tulsa Football Game

This is an oppurtunity for students to attend The University of Memphis vs. The University of Tulsa football game on November 3rd and serve the following moring from 9am - 12pm at Global Gardens in Tulsa, Oklahoma. 

To make the oppurtunity affordable the trip will only cost $30 and include the following: Charter bus ride,  hotel stay, game ticket, Memphis sweatshirt, two meals (breakfast on Nov 3rd and Nov 4th).   

Payment must be submitted by or before October 20th. OPEN TO THE FIRST 50 STUDENTS THAT REGISTER!

Let's Talk: Critical Conversations Initiative to Address Social Incidents Launched!

"Let's Talk" is a new program aimed at facilitating responses to social incidents that disrupt or challenge the learning enviornment at UM. The program offers a way fr any UM student, faculty, or staff to request university involvement and support. When you submit a request, the Let's Talk team evaluates the request and determines a timely, fitting response to help our whole campus community.

Proposal packets for the Spring 2018 Student event Allocation process and Student Organizational Governing Council are now avaliable via Tiger Zone. Student Event Allocation (SEA) is a program that allows Registered Student Organizations to submit proposals for funding, a semester in advance, for events and programs such as speakers, lectures, dance performances, etc. SEA, previously managed by the SEA Committee, is now a process that will be overseen by the newly formed Student Organization Governing Council.
