Rural and remote mental health in the workplaceProfessor David Perkins, from the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health will be speaking with us Thursday 20 May 1-1:30pm AEST.We hope you can join us live for this free event, however the recording will be available at the same link and on our website.A word from StephWith our Annual Forum locked and loaded, I am really starting to focus in on the themes and topics that are coming up in the workplace wellbeing sector. Resilience. Psychosocial risk factors. Mental health training. These important topics are certainly the big ones out there, and rightly so. Resilience is fundamental to our ability to cope and then thrive in the face of adversity. And mental health awareness training- What a great building block. But also, if you look a bit closer, themes like vicarious trauma, respectful workplaces and family violence are also coming out. And these topics are big. They are hard to tackle, nuanced and sensitive. They could also be considered not a workplace “problem”. But what we know after 2020 and the new face of the workplace being blurred into the personal and domestic world, is that ignoring these things doesn’t make them go away. We know that the workplace setting has an opportunity to keep people well, reduce suicide, and support people through these unique times. That if a workplace is aware of what these issues are, what they look like and how to support employees through them, then maybe the workplace could even save lives? There is so much going on it is hard to know where to start! Of course the Annual Forum is confirmed for 13 July, probably our biggest news! We also have our third in the "In Conversation..." series with David Perkins, the Director of the Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health on 20 May. We are also launching our Small Business Resource Hub which is filled with information, resources and tools to support mental health and wellbeing for small businesses. And our latest think piece is written by member, The Men’s Table, all about Healthy Masculinities in the workplace.
