In two short weeks, we will welcome delegates to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia for the 8th World Summit on Arts and Culture. In anticipation of the conversations that will take place, this week we are pleased to release our 8th World Summit Discussion Paper; as well as a public version of Artists, Displacement and Belonging, our recent report for National Members of the Federation.
The Discussion Paper explores the Summit theme – Mobile Minds: Culture, Knowledge and Change – and features contributions from individuals around the world whose work exemplifies how individuals can effect transformative change. Contributors include YAM Tunku Zain, the Founding President of the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs in Malaysia; Maria Daïf, a journalist and former director of L’Uzine in Casablanca, Morocco; Nick Capaldi, Executive Director of Arts Council Wales; Katindi Sivi-Njonjo, a leading futurist from Kenya; Gustavo Vidigal, a cultural strategist from Brazil; Dr Wulan Dirgantoro an academic from Indonesia who is based
in Australia; and Taiarahia Black, Professor of Māori and Indigenous Research Development in Aotearoa-New Zealand.
Artists, Displacement and Belonging is our first report aligned to our revised approach to thought leadership. We developed the report in close collaboration with members of the Federation and international colleagues to better understand the needs and aspirations of displaced artists, a priority issue identified by executive leaders from our National Member institutions. The full report is only available to National Members of the Federation, however, we are pleased to share with our wider network an abridged version of the report, which includes a summary of key findings and bright spots that demonstrate how diverse actors in the sector are creating conditions to support artists affected by displacement.
We hope that these publications will inspire Summit delegates and our ACORNS readers alike. The official conversation may not begin in situ for another two weeks, but we encourage you have a read and spark the conversation at #ArtSummitKL.

Magdalena Moreno Mujica selected as a member of the UNESCO Expert Facility
Magdalena Moreno Mujica, Executive Director of IFACCA, has been selected as a member of the 2019-2022 EU/UNESCO Expert Facility aimed at supporting initiatives for the implementation and promotion of the 2005 Convention on the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions. The current Expert Facility is a pool of internationally recognised experts from 35 countries who possess a wealth of expertise related to creative industries, cultural entrepreneurship, cultural policy, cultural statistics and indicators, digital, artistic freedom, media diversity, trade, status of the artist, gender equality or intellectual property rights.

Established in 1983, National Arts Strategies (NAS) strengthens the arts and culture sector by creating meaningful and useful educational experiences for leaders at all levels of the ecosystem – from boards and CEOs to entrepreneurs and artists – giving them the tools, connections and support to transform their leadership, their organisations and their communities. Cultural employment employs 690.3 thousand people in Spain

The Ministry of Culture and Sports has published the data on the cultural employment of 2018 obtained from the Active Population Survey, official statistics from the National Statistics Plan prepared by the National Institute of Statistics. This data reflects that 690.3 thousand people worked in one of the cultural industries in 2018, which represents 3.6% of total employment in Spain.

The Culture Year 2019 between South Korea and Denmark has now started

En dos breves semanas acogeremos los delegados en Kuala Lumpur, Malasia, para la 8ª Cumbre Mundial sobre las Artes y la Cultura. Como anticipo de las conversaciones que tendrán lugar nos complace publicar esta semana nuestro Documento de Discusión para la 8ª Cumbre Mundial, así como una versión pública de Artistas, desplazamiento y pertenencia, nuestro reciente informe para los miembros nacionales de la Federación.
El Documento de Discusión analiza el tema de la Cumbre – Mentes dinámicas: cultura, saber y cambio — y ofrece colaboraciones de personas de todo el mundo cuyo trabajo ejemplifica cómo los individuos pueden obrar un cambio transformativo. Los colaboradores incluyen a YAM Tunku Zain, presidente fundador del Instituto para la Democracia y Asuntos Económicos de Malasia; Maria Daïf, periodista y antigua directora de L’Uzine en Casablanca, Marruecos; Nick Capaldi, director ejecutivo del Consejo de las Artes del País de Gales; Katindi Sivi-Njonjo, un destacado futurista de Kenia; Gustavo Vidigal, un estratega cultural de Brasil; el Dr Wulan Dirgantoro,

Artistas, desplazamiento y pertenencia es nuestro primer informe en la línea de nuestro renovado enfoque en el liderazgo de pensamiento. Elaboramos el informe en estrecha colaboración con miembros de la Federación y con colegas internacionales para entender mejor las necesidades y aspiraciones de los artistas desplazados, un tema prioritario señalado por los líderes ejecutivos de las instituciones miembros nacionales. El informe completo está disponible solamente para los miembros nacionales de la Federación, pero nos alegra compartir con nuestra red pública una versión abreviada del informe con un resumen de los principales hallazgos y puntos de luz que demuestran cómo diversos actores en el sector están creando las condiciones para apoyar a artistas afectados por los desplazamientos.
Esperamos que estas publicaciones resulten inspiradoras tanto a los delegados de la Cumbre como para nuestros lectores de ACORNS. El diálogo empezará oficialmente en dos semanas pero les animamos ya a leerlas y abrir la conversación en #ArtSummitKL.

Magdalena Moreno Mujica, seleccionada miembro del banco de expertos de la UNESCO
Magdalena Moreno Mujica, directora ejecutiva de IFACCA, ha sido seleccionada como miembro del Banco de Expertos UE/UNESCO 2019-2022, destinado a apoyar las iniciativas para la implementación y promoción de la Convención de 2005 sobre la Protección y la Promoción de la Diversidad de las Expresiones Culturales. El actual Banco de Expertos es un grupo internacional de expertos reconocidos de 35 países con experiencia relevante en industrias creativas, emprendimiento cultural, política cultural, estadísticas e indicadores culturales, digitalización, libertad artística, diversidad en los medios, comercio, estatus del artista, igualdad de género o derechos de propiedad intelectual.

El Ministerio de Cultura y Deporte ha publicado los datos del empleo cultural de 2018 obtenidos de la explotación de la Encuesta de Población Activa, estadística oficial perteneciente al Plan Estadístico Nacional elaborada por el Instituto Nacional de Estadística. Estos datos reflejan que 690,3 mil personas trabajaron en alguna de las industrias culturales en 2018, lo que representa un 3,6% del empleo total en España.
