World Wine

Dear Wine Lover,

We are receiving our allocation of the 2017 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose in the next week. We have a guaranteed 24 bottles allocated to us, however 13 bottles have already been secured by some customers who placed their orders prior to this email going out. That leaves us with only 11 bottles left... The importer has said that if we need more, they will try their best to secure some more for us, fingers crossed. If you are interested in getting some of this, better act quickly. We will send out on a first come first serve basis or pro-rata.

Order: Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose 2017 - $63.99

Producer Note: The grapes used to make our rosé come from selected parcels where the vines are on average 20 years old. The yields are low, which explains the intense concentration and distinct expression of each varietal in this wine. The presence of Mourvedre gives this wine its strong character, balance and complexity. An intense fruit and floral nose make this an attractive rosé. The palate is rounded and full with fruity aromas of peach and pomegranate, followed by delicate spice notes and a pleasant freshness created by acidic balance.

The Producer: Domaine Tempier - The Star of the South!

‘Easily the most widely recognized estate in Bandol, Domaine Tempier has been run by the Peyraud family since 1936. Today, with the passing of Lucien Peyraud in 1996 and the retirement of sons Francois and Jean-Marie, the estate is run by the tall, energetic and talented Daniel Ravier—who speaks with a refreshing honesty and humility. Looking at the reds, the estate fashions four cuvees, a classic Bandol from a mix of terroirs, and three single vineyards—La Migoua, La Tourtine and Cabassaou. Lying outside the village of Le Beausset, the La Migoua vineyard is the highest elevation site of the three and sits at 270 meters above sea level; it consists of diverse clay and limestone soils. Possessing the smallest amount of Mourvèdre (~55%) and the most Grenache, this cuvee is always slightly less powerful and rich than the other two single vineyards, yet is always the most perfumed and complex. The La Tourtine parcel lies at a slightly lower elevation, in the Castellet region, and is more homogeneously clay soils. This parcel yields a powerful, rich, concentrated and surprisingly polished Bandol that has the fruit and texture to impress in its youth, yet the concentration to age beautifully. The smallest parcel is the Cabassaou, which lies below the Tourtine parcel in a more sheltered, warmer terroir. This cuvee has the highest percentage of Mourvèdre (upwards of 95%), as well as some of the oldest vines of the estate. It shares similarities to the Tourtine cuvee and is a rich, powerful, seriously impressive wine that every wine lover should taste once (preferably more) in their life.’

Along with the rose: Domaine Tempier Bandol Rose 2017 - $63.99

We have also been able to secure 12 bottles of each of these:

2016 Tempier Bandol Blanc - $63.99
Producer Note: White wine accounts for just 3% of Domaine Tempier’s total wine production. It is made from grapes grown on the estate’s finest vineyards which benefit from limited exposure to sunshine. This results in the grapes ripening slowly which allows the wine to mature with good balance after spending 8 to 10 months in oak casks. Blended from a mix of Clairette, Bourboulenc and Ugni Blanc varieties, the white develops strong mineral notes on a fresh palate with an attractive aroma of citrus fruits mingled with white blossom. For drinking within 6 to 8 years.

2015 Tempier Cuvee Classique - $71.99
Producer Note: At Domaine Tempier grapes from our different vineyards are skillfully blended to create this wine, made up of between 70 and 75% Mourvedre (depending on the year) combined with Grenache, Cinsault and a hint (2%) of old Carignan. This fruity, well balanced wine can be enjoyed after 3 or 4 years, but develops extremely pleasant tertiary aromas (leather, animal and undergrowth) with further ageing. The wine’s balance gives it an ageing potential of 15 years or more.

There are no links for these two varieties at the moment, if you are interested in ordering some of these wines, just reply to this email and we can organise it for you.

Cheers
