Art of Kindness Poetry Contest

with moons. you taught me such cryptic languages.
I would spend the rest of my life decoding them.
now, I spoon quiet words into your mouth
the same way you did when I was little. I want to crawl
into your lungs and breathe for you. I want to spell it out.
please, forget me not.

Prompt of the Week

From Christina Olivares, Girls Write Now Teaching Artist

Write a list of places that make you feel safe and choose one. Draw/map the space on the page. Then, write couplets speaking back to that space.

Learn how memory and poetry intersect with poet Christina Olivares. Through writing exercises that explore how you might articulate the smallest traces of memory, this salon teaches us how to write sequences of small poems to articulate larger memories.
