2017 Round 1 APA / UPA Scholarships

Applications 2017 Round 1 APA/UPA Scholarships have now closed. 2017 Round 2 will open in May 2017.

PhD Scholarship in Autosomal Dominant Polycystic Kidney Disease
Up to two full-time PhD positions are available to work on specific projects aimed at finding a better treatment for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease. The projects will provide an unique opportunity to be involved in a specific aspect of the full spectrum of translational research ranging from preclinical studies and drug development to applied clinical trial research in genetics, biomarker development, dietetics and other related areas (quality of life and process evaluation). The scholarship will be valued at the same rate as the Australian Postgraduate Award, and will be indexed annually. It may be renewed for up to three years, subject to satisfactory progress. For candidates that are successful in obtaining an APA, a top-up scholarship to the value of $10,000 per annum is possible. Further Details and How to Apply

PhD Scholarships investigating the influence of dog ownership on human health
One supplementary PhD scholarship is available for suitably qualified candidates from human health-related or veterinary disciplines. The aim of the broader research project is to investigate the effects of dog ownership on cardiometabolic health, psychological health and mental wellbeing, social connections, and health-related behaviours such as physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and sleep. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens. Top-up funding is available in the amount of $10,000 per annum to a postgraduate student who has obtained or will obtain an Australian Postgraduate Award. Further Details and How to Apply

PhD scholarship in Digital Breast Tomosynthesis (3D-mammography) in Population Cancer Screening
A full-time post-graduate scholarship in breast cancer screening research is available for a suitably qualified candidate to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Medicine. The research project will involve evaluating the evidence on digital breast tomosynthesis (3D-mammography) in population screening, as part of the breast cancer research portfolio in the Screening and Test Evaluation Program (STEP). The scholarship is valued at the current NHMRC Standard rate ($25,850 per annum in 2015, tax exempt). Further Details and How to Apply

Immunotherapy Clinical Trials in Haemopoietic Stem Cell Transplant
Westmead Institute for Medical Research is offering one full-time 12 month PhD scholarship in the field of T cell immunotherapy clinical trials. This scholarship is available to a medical graduate specialising in haematology who wishes to commence a PhD in 2017. Applicants must be an Australian citizen or an Australian permanent resident and have completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery or a Doctor of Medicine degree. The scholarship is available for a period of 12 months and includes a tax exempt stipend of $37,800. Further Details and How to Apply

Merck PhD Scholarship in Medicine
A full-time postgraduate scholarship is available for a suitably qualified candidate with a medical degree to undertake research studies leading to a PhD in Medicine. The research project is related to intra-articular injection therapies for osteoarthritis. Applicants should have a medical degree and experience with musculoskeletal diseases (particular interest in osteoarthritis and rheumatology). The scholarship is valued at $40,000 per annum (tax exempt) for 3 years. Further Details and How to Apply

PhD Scholarship - Costs of Care of Spinal Trauma
This project will investigate a large record linked dataset containing significant pre-hospital, acute care, ABF costs and follow up data for a cohort of patients with acute traumatic spinal cord injury (TSCI). It uniquely leverages from two completed projects – a large multi-state NHMRC Partnership Project which has recruited patients to an observational and follow up study, and a Delph Process study which has developed expert consensus for the acute care of patients with TSCI. Students with Masters of Health Economics strongly encouraged to apply. Applicants must be Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents or New Zealand citizens. Full‐time award holders receive a stipend of $25,849 which is currently exempt from taxation. Further Details and How to Apply
