A late arrival can lead to the disruption of routines and instruction within your child’s classroom. Students that arrive after 8:00am will be marked tardy. A tardy due to illness, family emergency, funeral, legal matter, religious holiday, or medical appointment (a doctor's note must be provided) is considered an “excused tardy.” All other tardies are documented as “unexcused tardies.” According to California law, a student who accumulates 3 tardies to class of 30 minutes or more in one school year without a valid excuse is considered a truant. A student with irregular attendance, including tardiness and early dismissal, may be referred to the Urban Discovery Academy School Attendance Review Team (SART), Department of Child and Family Services, and/or the San Diego Police Department Truancy Office. Hepatitis A Free Vaccination ClinicIn order to combat the spread of Hepatitis A, the San Diego County’s Health and Human Services Agency is offering free Hepatitis A testing and vaccinations at Central Library (330 Park Blvd, 92101). They are also offering free flu shots and a limited supply of hygiene kits available for free public distribution upon request. The Hepatitis A vaccine is not a school requirement for the state of California, so if your child has not received the vaccine, parents should strongly consider this option. The clinic is open from 2:00-5:00pm on the 2nd floor of the library (Room 222) on October 17, November 21, and December 19. Hepatitis A immunizations are also readily available at local CVS Minute Clinics (and probably other locations throughout San Diego - check with your healthcare provider). Given the serious outbreak of Hepatitis A in our immediate community, we strongly urge all of our families to ensure everyone is vaccinated right away. Annual FundWe hope you have had the time to consider giving to our Annual Fund. We have received a handful of donations so far; thank you so much for the generous contributions for our classrooms! To contribute to our Annual Fund, please drop off your yellow envelope that was distributed at Back to School Night to the UDA front office or follow this link: Annual Fund to Support UDA & Ideate.
