Note From The RE2020 has brought about a lot of struggles, for so many people, for so many different reasons. I try to stay as positive as I can, and count the blessings I have. I haven’t lost anyone to this disease, I’ve been able to keep my job, my family and friends are safe. The end of April really threw me for a loop and turned my already sideways world even-more-sideways. On April 28th, Rob and I had to say goodbye to our beloved Finnegan. He was an intelligent, quirky, lovable Border Collie who made me a dog lover. Having been bit by a dog as a child, I’ve always had a cautious life around dogs. Finn changed that, and showed me unconditional love and friendship. His passing, coupled with working from home in my now silent house, and the already strong feeling of loneliness I’ve felt through this quarantine, made things seem almost impossible to recover from. I apologize for my silence and lack of communication, but I’ve been struggling. I was looking through photos of Finn, and found one of my favorites. It’s important to note that he was a dog who hated his picture being taken, and never really snuggled much, so getting a picture of him with Rob or myself was quite a rarity. This picture makes me happy for several reasons. I took this picture of Finn after one of our May autocrosses in the Monsoon Season of 2018. You can tell because I look like I’ve been outside all day, and I have 4 layers of clothes on (one of them being our Susquehanna shirt). It’s also one of maybe 3 pictures I have with both of us in a photo. Seeing this picture makes me think about how lucky I was to have Finn in my life, and be his Mom for as long as I was. I also think about how lucky I am to have this club, and all of the people in it. The friends and relationships I’ve built since joining the Susquehanna Region have been some of the greatest I’ll ever know. So, since this month’s note is sentimental, I’m grateful to have all of you in my life. Just like Finn, the people I’ve met in the last 4 years have been such a blessing. I hope to get to see all of you soon. As things are starting to look up - we’re going Yellow, and (fingers-crossed) Green soon - my hope is to start the season, and get back to having fun with our cars and each other...soon. Keep It Classy, Susquehanna From The Editor's DeskNot a ton to add here, but please reach out to your friends and loved ones. See how they're doing. There's more than just the financial struggle happening, there's been a marked decline in mental health tied to the situation at hand. Coloring Contest Winners! We didn’t have a great turnout, but we did have a few entries on our coloring contest. I appreciate everyone who took the time to participate, and I’d like to announce the winners. 1st Place - Lisa Leathery 2nd Place - Sheldon Dobbs (and his daughter Bridget) 3rd Place - Mark Hetrick Annual Waiver FormsIn light of COVID-19, and trying to keep everyone safe and germ free… I would HIGHLY recommend that you guys fill an annual waiver form, send it to me in color via email at mmauro@scca-susq.com. I can sign it and send it back into the National office. This way - you won't have to sign the waivers at any events for the year. Make sure you upload your photo onto your my.scca.com profile as well! Our Assistant RE, Nick Landis has made it a fillable form that you can E-sign and send back electronically. You don’t even have to print it now! May Regional MeetingThis month’s membership meeting has been cancelled. As of today, we hope that we can begin our regularly scheduled meetings in June, but we’ll keep you informed as things progress. Staying Updated with SCCA NationalYou can stay informed on a National level with SCCA’s dedicated COVID-19 page here. News from SCCA Member Spotlight: Jim and Kathy GillenMAY 23, 2020 — There are lots of excuses for not participating in the SCCA. There’s no spot for me, I’m not a driver, I don’t know what to do, I’m too young, I’m too old, I’m “too or not”… it doesn’t matter. None of them are true.No one proves that more than the husband and wife duo of Jim and Kathy Gillen and the work they’ve done with the Land O’ Lakes Region. Revised Runoffs 2020 Qualification PathMAY 20, 2020 — Upon advisement from the Sports Car Club of America® (SCCA®) Road Racing Department and Club Racing Board, the SCCA Board of Directors (BoD) has approved a revision to invitation qualification criteria for the 2020 National Championship Runoffs® taking place Oct. 3-11 at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin. Trek: An Enjoyable Way To Social Distances MAY 21, 2020 — As summer is approaching and Track and Solo events are limited we can still get together and practice safe social distancing as outlined by the SCCA Guidelines for COVID-19. A simple way to get together is to conduct a ‘short cruise’, and get out to see the countryside. Last year SCCA announced a new type of Sanctioned event, a non-competitive driving Trek which is intended to provide a way to increase awareness of the SCCA to likely new members and get together as a club. COVID-19: Going Green - Safely!MAY 12, 2020 — As we head into the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, we have hundreds of members, drivers, volunteers, and Club leaders heading to SCCA-sanctioned events—of all program types—taking place across the country. As we do, I’m sure all of us will be focused on our number one priority which has been, and continues to be, keeping us all safe. Both on the course and off. ——— Sponsors ———2020 Event Schedule 6/12/20: NEPA/SUSQ AX, Pocono (T&T) *This schedule of events is preliminary and not complete.
