Euan studied in Mexico for a semester and he liked it so much he decided to stay there for another!
Looking back on his experience, he said he would do it all again.
“The city of Guadalajara is often described as the epitome of Mexican culture. There is mariachi music, ancient cathedrals and tequila at almost every cobblestoned corner of the old town. I chose to live with a Mexican host family with other local and international students. It was here I Had the opportunity to learn and use Spanish in my everyday encounters.
I also learned about Aztec culture, migration law and other contemporary issues in North America. Tecnologico de Monterrey is one of the best universities in Mexico, where I was able to ride my bike to class and take advantage of the amazing facilities, which were all at our disposal. The outdoor pool was my personal favourite, which always came in handy under the hot Mexican sun.
I had the opportunity to explore many different parts of the country, each unique in their own right. A real highlight was the traditional Day of the Dead celebrations, which was unlike anything I had experience before. I was pushed out of my comfort zone and made many personal and professional connections that I continue to maintain to this day. I would recommend Mexico to any student interested in the Spanish language, cuisine and travel.”
