Hello, friends!
It's been a while since I popped in here. I hope you all had a fantastic summer and are enjoying this beautiful fall like I am.
I was making pancakes for dinner for my 3-year-old son the other day (yes, I am that mom) when a friend forwarded this movie trailer for a documentary called "The Devil We Know" that aired at Sundance and many other film festivals this year. It exposes a massive 50-year coverup by DuPont to hide the dangers of Teflon—a chemical found on a wide variety of consumer products, including the very pan I was cooking my son's dinner on.
Like many of you, I'm peripherally aware that I probably shouldn't use non-stick pans because of the chemicals, but I really didn't understand the dangers of Teflon until watching this. The chemicals in Teflon have permeated so many of our products that
today, every baby is born with Teflon chemicals already in their blood. They have been traced to illness and birth defects. The documentary tells the story of how a small group of West Virginia citizens took on DuPont for their coverup and won a $900 million settlement with the help of one of the very law firms we work with every day, Levin Papantonio. I highly recommend you at least watch the trailer for this documentary, because I guarantee it will make you want to know more about this chemical you come into contact with every day.
Now that I've scared you silly, I'm off to the store to buy some non-stick pans to cook my lazy dinners on. Before I go, please check out these other lawsuits and settlement news stories from last week:
Warm Regards,
