Legislation Signed to Protect New Jersey Workers, Employers From Unlawful Misclassification

A four-bill legislative package furthers state efforts to stop employee misclassification, the practice of illegally and improperly classifying employees as independent contractors. Misclassification deprives workers of the right to earn minimum wage and overtime, workers’ compensation and more, and puts upstanding employers at a competitive disadvantage against those who flout the law.

State Pushes for More Vaccinations

As different coronavirus variants spread around the world and in New Jersey, officials continue to be adamant about getting as many adults and children vaccinated as possible to curb the spread of the virus and new variants. State health commissioner Judy Persichilli says, “We have to stop it and only way to stop it is not to give this virus an accepting host.”

Webinar: Starting & Running a Business in NJ

Join NJBAC's Melanie Willoughby and the Metro NJ chapter of SCORE -- a nonprofit association dedicated to educating entrepreneurs and helping small businesses start, grow, and succeed nationwide -- as they host a webinar on starting and running a business in New Jersey. Melanie will discuss in detail exactly how a business can get answers on taxation, insurance, licensing, and other questions, affecting their operation. Resource to Help Businesses Prepare for Plastics Ban Law

New Jersey businesses are urged to prepare for new requirements that will ban single-use plastic carryout bags, polystyrene foam food service products, single-use paper carryout bags in grocery stores equal to or larger than 2,500 square feet, and limit plastic straws to by-request-only. The New Jersey Business Action Center has created a flyer to help businesses understand and prepare for these changes.
