A Fond Farewell

Bob Duncanson has announced he will be stepping down in his role as Executive Director effective the Spring Annual General Meeting. The AGM will mark Bob's 10th anniversary in his role as ED.

Executive Director Needed 

With the opening of the Executive Director role, the Search Committee is relying on the GBA’s extended “family” and network to publicize the opportunity to any interested parties. The objective is to have a replacement selected in time to introduce at the Spring AGM.

IJC Progress Report

The latest IJC report on water quality assesses the state of environmental pollution and the deteriorating water quality of our Great Lakes.

Protecting the Great Lakes

The Government of Canada announced that it will invest $44.84 million for Great Lakes protection. This is part of a larger initiative allocated to freshwater protection. The initiative will support important issues from cleaner drinking water to beaches we can enjoy.

Funding for Great Lakes Cleanup

A wide-ranging Great Lakes cleanup program would receive $300 million next year under a spending bill approved by the Senate Appropriations Committee.

Rising Concerns On Pipelines

A recent agreement with Enbridge Energy puts the Great Lakes at risk. The agreement allows Enbridge’s pipelines to occupy the lake bed at the Makinac straits which will possibly increase future interest from other oil and gas pipeline companies to occupy the area.

 The Federation of Ontario Cottagers Associations recently published A Shoreline Owner’s Guide to Invasive Species that outlines the challenges of invasive species and suggests actions that owners can take.

Water Levels

Get your latest water level updates here.

Water levels in Michigan-Huron remain high - 11 inches higher than one year ago.

The US Army Corps of Engineers predict that levels are expected to decline 2 inches over the next 30 days.
