We lead today with a hint of major changes that might be on the way for training areas in Australia's north, according to Brigadier Mark Brewer, Director-General US Force Posture Initiative. Speaking at ADM's Northern Australia Defence Summit in Darwin last week, BRIG Brewer asked whether traditional training areas are still fit for purpose and advocated for 'autonomous and mobile targetry with a [laser] shootback capability'.
In other news, I cover the launch of the Defence Innovation Hub in Sydney, RADM (Ret'd) Peter Briggs calls for government to consider a future nuclear submarine capability, Emma Cygan discusses the difficulties of user-proofing military vehicles, Australian veteran-owned company BenchOn is nominated for the Sage Power 50 business showcase, Broadspectrum launches an ambitious Indigenous engagement plan, and the ADF deploys to Port Moresby for APEC.
And as always, the current house announcements: forms for this year's Top 40 Defence Contractors survey are available now (due Nov 16 but early responses are very welcome!), as well as Expressions of Interest for next year's Essington Lewis Awards (due Nov 23). Please contact Katherine Ziesing for Top 40 forms and Awards
Coordinator Jess Havard for Essington Lewis Awards enquiries.
