The Baker Street Redevelopment is intended to be multi-use buildings housing the new Central Library, residential apartments and commercial or institutional services. This will include public parking space and an urban square. Having a combined commerical and residential space will attract many visitors which will help keep Guelph's downtown core thriving. The Baker District Open House presentation, available for online viewing, contains valuable information about the history, planning, partners and concept drawings for the development. As part of the development process all members of the community are invited to have their say. Be sure to share your comments online or drop into any library location and complete a comment card.
Did you know the 20th anniversary of Family Literacy Day is January 27th? Why not attend one of these great children's programs being held at various library locations on the 26th and 27th. Connect From the Archives: Winter has finally arrived! A January snowfall in 1980 brought with it large snowbanks and these three DeVries siblings to play on them. Winter Market at City Hall, is one of our favorite winter pictures. Taken during the 1800's this photograph depicts snow covered streets and horse drawn sleigh's. Teen Exams: Quiet Study Time Are you stressed about exams? Having a hard time finding a quiet place to study? Not to fear - there is a space for you at the Main library! Join us during any of our open hours on January 24, 25, 28, 29 and 30 where there is a room set aside just for teens studying. To sweeten the deal, small snacks will be provided to give your brain that extra energy boost! When your exams are done and you need to relax, join us for a Bad Art Afternoon on January 31. Finally, finish off the break by designing your own bath bombs on February 1! They are the perfect way to get back to school fresh and ready for a new semester! |
