No images? Click here We are really looking forward to meeting and getting to know you!Hi, my name is Jenny and I manage the Halifax College Team. Alongside Jacqui and Larry (College Administrators), Mark (College Wellbeing Officer), Jane (College Life Coordinator) and Natasha and Xinide our College Life Advisors, we work together to make sure that every student in Halifax feels welcome in their new community and is able to make the most of their time at University. We understand that coming to university can sometimes feel a little bit daunting, but your college team is here for you every step of the way. We have organised an induction and a number of online activities in advance of your arrival, so that you have an opportunity to meet the college team, your committee, STYCs, STYMs and other college members to find out more about what it will be like when you arrive. Check out our website and join the Halifax Facebook group to find out what is planned in the run up to arrivals, meet our Student Committee and ask any questions you may have. Online InductionCompleting the online induction is a great place to start your university journey. York prides itself on being a community built on respect, and this induction explains more about the community you will be joining and our values. It is packed with useful information and resources to support you through your first few weeks. Pre-arrival SurveyWe are keen to hear from you. Please complete our pre-arrival survey and share with us your interests and ambitions or feel free to ask a question. Arrivals information (if living on campus)New Undergraduate students living on campus will arrive into college over two days. We will contact you by email to arrange a time to arrive, so keep an eye on your University inbox to book an arrivals slot. International and EU students arrival date - Friday 24 September For UK students, depending on the resident block you are allocated in Halifax College, you will be asked to arrive on the following dates: Saturday 25 September
Sunday 26 September
The Accommodation Team will be in touch with you early next week with confirmation of your room number. Once you’ve arrived, there will be planned welcome events and activities providing safe opportunities to meet other new students and join campus and city tours. We know that not all of our international students will be able to get here for our arrivals weekend on the 25th & 26th September, due to travel restrictions. We will be extending our welcome events throughout October to allow for this and more information will be shared with everyone on these soon. Please note, students will not be able to access University accommodation until their confirmed contract start date, except by specific arrangement with our student support team because of an additional support need, or in exceptional circumstances agreed with our accommodation team. Please ensure you plan to arrive on or after this date. Parent and Supporter TalkOn Tuesday 14 and Wednesday 22 September, we will be hosting a live online welcome talk for parents and supporters via zoom. This will be an opportunity for the people who care about you to ask questions and meet college staff. Please share this information with your significant others and book to join the talk below. Please note: If a parent, guardian or carer contacts us on your behalf, we won’t be able to speak to them about you until we’ve received written permission from you first. What should I be doing now?
