REDS GLOBAL NEWSLETTEREDITION 21 - January 2018
MESSAGESA WORD FROM JASON REDMAN
Hello Team,
Happy New Year and I hope everyone is well. It was great to have a wonderful time with friends and family over the holiday season. I would like to speak about a few items that I dearly care about and have mentioned previously.
Your mental health and well being is vital:
- Run your body and mind clear and clean.
- Clean food, clean conversations with yourselves and loved ones.
Reds Global have confidential experts ready to assist you if you require them. The details for our employee assistance program are at the end of this newsletter. I urge you to use them if you need to.
Unfortunately, I do need to remind you that this industry does slow down. Please see below a recap of what I said in my last message:
At present we are experiencing a boom in the industry. it is paramount to consider there comes a point when work slows down. I encourage my friends and family to seek financial planning advice for the future if they haven't done so already. It is important to have a plan, factor in the 'what if'. For example: 'what if I get sick', 'what if work slows down dramatically', 'what if I have to take on full time care of a loved one' etc.
Please look after your equipment, it has to be used again and again. This is crucial to Reds Global's success and you can make a difference. Always add the extra 10% to your day and smile to ensure positive feedback. This sets us aside from the rest and secures a beneficial, strong and lasting relationship with our clients.
I hope you all keep well, smiling and most importantly safe. It is paramount that we go home safely to our family and friends.
All the best.
A WORD FROM DAVE BROWN Welcome to our first newsletter for 2018. I trust you all had a great Christmas and New Year. Following a challenging last few months of 2017 personally I have returned to Reds Global well rested and excited to be working in the sales department with Jason and Karen. Neil and Bernard have been doing a fantastic job with operations / projects and they continue to meet the daily challenges that the role constantly throws at them. It would be appreciated if you could assist them the same as you did when I was working in the role. Rik and I recently went on a trip to the Yongmao factory in Fushun, Northern China. It was unbelievable and certainly opened my eyes on how these tower cranes are manufactured. I have been fortunate enough to have visited a few tower crane manufacturers in Europe and I have never seen such a huge manufacturing facility like Yongmao.
Below is a very brief summary of the trip.
Day One
We woke to a morning of minus 12 degrees. We visited the factory and sat with the engineering department for the entire day working on improvements that Reds Global would like to have as standard on all our tower cranes. These inclusions effect the comfort of the tower crane with most other inclusions effecting the rigging of the tower crane. Day Two
We woke to a chilly minus 21 degrees with snow falling and everything covered in 15cm of snow. Again, we visited the factory and completed a walk of the entire facility from the engineering department, through the three differing manufacturing facility buildings; the quality inspection, sandblasting and painting sections. The huge sheds that we were walking through made a football field look small. The sheds were temperature controlled so the employees were working in comfortable conditions. The sheds were so clean that we could eat our lunch from the floor.
Day Three
We woke to a brisk minus 28 degrees with more snow falling overnight. The icy conditions were difficult to walk in, let alone drive in. The morning was spent with a driver showing us the sights around Fushun and Shenyung. The temperature didn’t warm up at all and we were shown the sights of the area with everything covered in snow and ice. We witnessed the way of life in the area and saw that everyone kept very busy with people from all walks of life chipping in to clear footpaths and roads of ice and snow. It was an amazing sight to see. Day Four
We woke to a very cold minus 32 degrees. Again, we spent the day in the factory talking with the engineering department regarding our inclusions. We were very impressed by how quickly the engineers worked and how they were so receptive to our requirements. The improvements that we had discussed were all being worked on with the Yongmao engineers giving us their valuable time. We completed another tour of the factory where we watched the guys install tower cranes for testing prior to shipping in the very cold minus 32 temperature with snow falling. I will never complain again about the cold when we are working in Canberra in winter installing tower cranes.
After visiting the factory and seeing first hand how well these cranes are manufactured and the engineering considerations put into the manufacturing process, it is not difficult to understand how good these cranes are. Reds Global have purchased another STL-420 for the fleet. Photos of the new crane going up at Parramatta on a project we have been awarded with Parkview will be posted soon. Thank you for allowing me to share this with you and I look forward to seeing you all in the coming weeks as we attend site to discuss new ideas and opportunities with yourselves and our clients. Please remember guys that the extra 10% you give makes us better then our competitors, it takes us from ordinary to extraordinary. Thank you again and be safe.
A WORD FROM THE SAFETY TEAM Greetings from Team Safety, As the long hot summer continues a few reminders to think of: - Planning
Morning toolbox talks is the time to plan the day. Lifts, safety requirements, client needs etc should be discussed before it gets very hot or afternoon storms arrive and you may be weathered off. - Equipment
The Maintenance Controller Bernard Lott 0488 049 298 is the key contact for broken or unserviceable equipment. If the aircon doesn't work let us know so we can get it fixed in order to maintain a good work environment. - Hydration
Keep your fluids up and look after not only yourself but, your team mates too. - Sun Protection
Long sleeves and pants help protect you both from UV rays and radiant heat coming off the jump form. - Mobile Phones
Personal calls should only be taken during breaks. If you need to take a work call, remember your own safety. Stand in a safe location where you are visible, keep your PPE on when on the job site, be aware of your surrounds i.e. don't walk around and then in front of moving vehicles, monitor your radio to keep your crew and the rest of the site safe. - Bypass
If you are placing your crane into Bypass the office needs to know. Contact James M 0448 515 185 or Ben A 0439 204 518 for approval. It means there is a problem with the system that needs to be fixed therefore someone has to know.
Training Day
Sunday, 25 February 2018 will be training day. I look forward to seeing you all there for what will be an informative knowledge sharing morning. A big thank you to the Consultative Committee for putting forward some great ideas for sessions to benefit the team. If there has been any new employees start that are not on the Newsletter mailing list please let them know about Training Day. Work Site Injuries

- Team member attends doctor with a Reds Global representative to ensure they are safe to get there and get home etc.
- Doctor issues a medical certificate clearing the person for immediate work or for suitable duties for a period.
- Team member completes suitable duties and attends physio etc to
assist in their recovery.
- Team member attends doctor with a Reds Global representative to be cleared to return to work full duties.
- Work starts, lessons are learnt and not repeated, team continues onwards from strength to strength.
Any questions as always just call. Thanks James L and James M
A WORD FROM BEN ABAS
Hello Team,
It gives me great pleasure writing to you all in the Summer edition of our Newsletter. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Year break.
Topics I would like to share are: - Weather
- Work Safety Awareness
Weather
As you are well aware we have had some hot days these past few weeks of Summer and they have been followed with Summer stormy weather, on occasion heavy rain and winds. I want teams to be very proactive when it comes to weather and communicating with site management about this. It is very important to look ahead at forecasted weather for the week and communicate this with site management so a plan can be put in place with organising lifts and deliveries when we are expecting rain, wind and/or heat. Work Safety Awareness
Working onsite, most of the time we are under pressure to get the job moving quickly as there might be a few trucks of Formwork and Pre-Cast lined up that needs to be unloaded 'yesterday'. Sometimes, during this pressure work could be done in a safer manner and would usually be done so however, we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of the job site. It is very important that in times like this we take a minute to regather our thoughts and work towards a better and safer plan on doing the job. Cutting a minute or two out of a job is just not worth someone getting injured and worse living with the fact that you might have injured someone else working around you. I urge everyone to always have safety in the front of your mind, so that we all go home to our families. Thank you for taking the time in reading this
article. Keep up the fantastic work guys and see you in the coming weeks.

REDS GLOBAL UPDATESHi Team,
I hope everyone is well rested after the holiday season. There a few changes at Reds Global to share with everyone.
If there have been any new team members start and they say they have not received the Newsletter can you please ask them to contact me so I can add them on the list? Speaking of new team member we have had Bonnie Doolan start in the office for our HR Projects. The first big project Bonnie is working on is mentioned below, Employment Hero.
EMPLOYMENT HERO
We are excited to announce that we are now live and running on our new employee system, Employment Hero. Employment Hero is Australia’s best cloud HRIS software, allowing you to easily manage all of your employee details online. Your employer will invite you to the platform via email, which will contain a link to log in and create a password. You will only need to set a password once, after which can easily log in at any time from any device. Please ensure that you create a password, log in and take the time to review your details, updating any information if required. If any tickets / licences are expired or do not exist in your file, please upload these and enter the correct expiry date. Any leave requests will now be made via
Employment Hero. There is a mobile app that is available for download which is the easiest way to submit your leave requests. From time to time Employment Hero may generate requests for you to review and accept new policies, procedures or produce various pieces of information relevant to your employment. Please ensure that you follow instructions that are emailed to you, otherwise the system will keep generating that same email until the request has been actioned. Please forward any questions to Bonnie via 1300 944 381 or bonnie@redsglobal.com.
TAGGING SLINGS
Hopefully all team members are aware of the colour system we have in place for tagging slings. I will be sending a sticker to each site for team members to put on their equipment box in the coming weeks. This will be a reminder of what colour should be used for the current quarter. Your slings must be tagged every 3 months and the gear register must be updated to reflect that you have re-tagged them for the quarter. The current quarter is March and the colour to be used is white. If you do not have white tags on your slings and do not have any white tags on site please call me and I will get them out to you ASAP. The colour system is as per the below: - March QTR - White
- June QTR - Red
- September QTR - Green
- December QTR - Yellow
MAINTENANCE REMINDER
If you are having any maintenance issues with your crane please call Bernard Lott 0488 049 298 or myself 0430 168 875 and we can organise for a tech to be sent to site if needed. PORT MACQUARIE TRIATHLON
The Port Macquarie Triathlon is fast approaching. It will be held in May this year. The office crew are really looking forward to it. We have a team and some individuals going in the event. We still haven't had any team requests from site. It would be so amazing if we could get a team together from site or even some individuals partaking in the event. We can give each other updates on training progress and support each other in the big event. Please follow the below link to register. Reds Global will provide your outfits. Please let me know if you register.
JAMES MORIARTY - CORPORATE FIGHTER
Our Safety Coordinator, Mad Dog Moriarty will be taking place in a charity fight night again. The event will be held on 7th April 2018 at Star City Casino. Please contact James via 0448 515 185 or james@redsglobal.com if you would like to purchase some tickets. This is a great opportunity to support a good cause and help cheer one of our team members on. This time the event will be raising funds for the Black Dog Institute.
REDS GLOBAL OFFICE CONTACTS
There have been some changes in the office. A list of the Reds Global office contacts is below for your information.
MOVE TO LACE UP BOOTS
There are some sites that require lace up boots to be worn due to site conditions and rules. It has been decided to gradually move to lace up boots for all sites to keep up with client requests.
Please ensure the next time you purchase boots you consider this change and ensure that you get lace ups. This will happen over some time so don't worry if you have just purchased new boots and they are not lace up. Just ensure you make the switch with your next order. It would be greatly appreciated if you could spread the word to all team members.
EMPLOYEE COUNSELLING SERVICE
Just a reminder of the employee assistance service available to all team members. There is an update on our website with information regarding the service and some information below.
SAFETY ALERT
The below notice went out to all employees on 24 January 2018 from the Safety Team. Please ensure you read this if you haven't done so already.
