There are just 15 course places left for this year. Our Wild Food Weekend has just 6 places remaining. On this two day course you will live out in the woods, sleeping under a lightweight shelter and cooking over open fires. You will be shown how to identify edible and poisonous plants, learn which species are good for medicine, cordage, making fire, insect repellent, natural glues, soap and even dyes. We'll talk about preserving food outdoors too with some of the venison being made into jerky. Baking bread over a campfire is also taught, an important string to your bow. In fact, with Autumn being a time of plenty we do a LOT of quality eating on this course. Bring a bigger pair of trousers to go home in... Date - 14th - 16th September (19.00 - 16.00) Price - £225 per person There are only 4 places left on our September Bushcraft Weekend. "As I wipe my bloody hands on a patch of grass, I reflect on how dull, by comparison, a spa weekend would have been. Who wants a pedicure when you can flense a rabbit, instead?" This course aims to introduce you to wilderness survival skills and bushcraft techniques. We cram as much quality instruction and outdoor experience as we possibly can into your two days out in the woods. By Saturday night you'll be sleeping in your own leaf litter shelter, warmed by a fire you've lit yourself (not a match or lighter in sight) eating a meal made from gathered foods. Date - 28th - 30th September (19.00 - 15.00) Price - £225 per person Fire, Traps & Trapping has 5 places available. This workshop aims to build on previous experiences and knowledge gained, focussing mainly on fire by friction, traps and trapping. We’ll cover friction fire lighting in detail with time set aside for everyone to make their own working bow drill set. Date - 19th - 21st October (19.00 - 15.00) Price - £225 per person We have also had interest in the following Short Day Courses: Making an Atlatl & Dart - 31st July - £55 Spoon Carving - 20th August - £55 Leather Bag - 2nd September - £90 but need more names to run - anyone interested? The idea of these short workshops is to keep the cost down to the individual but also serve as an excellent introduction to bushcraft, wilderness living skills and crafts without the commitment of signing up to a longer course. Please email joe@wilderness-survival.co.uk to add your name and hopefully we can run these. In between our scheduled courses we can also organise and run One Day and Bespoke Workshops: Corporate team building days for large groups, stag/hen weekends with a bushcrafty theme, subject specific training courses for groups and private day courses focusing on a particular skill or technique such as fire lighting by friction, foraging wild plants for food and medicine, wild game preparation and back country cooking, survival trapping and tracking, stalking and camouflage, carving a spoon with axe and knife, basket weaving using locally found materials; the list is pretty extensive. Have a quick browse at our testimonial page to see what other folk got up to during their time with us. Hope to see you in the woods soon! Joe O'Leary Author of The Wilderness Survival Guide |
