Can you imagine...

Can you imagine being 6 years old and being forced to make bricks all day long for a living?

Can you imagine being forced to get married at 10 years old?

Can you imagine being a mum who feels her only option is to abandon her child on the street?

Can you imagine your child not being allowed to use school toilets because they are from a different background?

Can you?

We expect most of you would say 'NO'. At Our Sansar, sadly we have to answer 'YES' everyday to these questions.

We have worked hard to change this and have some amazing success stories to tell. Scroll down to see the impact we have made this year...

Child Labour

143 children do not make bricks anymore. They all study. They all love it. Their families are now trained, set up with businesses and finally bringing sustainable, regular income. We will be starting 2025 with new children joining our programme and we can't wait. 2500 more children to go! And the launch of a recycling centre to provide a sustainable income to families is happening shortly, so this is very exciting for all of us.

Child Marriage

77 girls are in education - not married. Their families stopped talking about getting them married off. Next year the older girls will be starting skills training and will be helped with employment opportunities. We will be adding more girls to the programme in 2025 as our pilot project is bringing great results.

Street Children

Following our survey of street children in Birgunj, we are now helping 119 children who have been working on the streets. Good news is that there are now almost no children sleeping on the streets of Birgunj!

The future for former street children that we have been helping - 6 of our boys from the children's home (who have just reached adult age) are having the time of their lives in Goa, India working at luxury resorts. They are being trained in the hospitality sector as their first work experience and are studying at the same time remotely. It feels like nothing can stop them from having an amazing future.

Empowering our girls and fighting inequalities

217 girls are safe now. They know they have our staff to turn to 24/7. They are in education or training. They all have tools that can prepare them for bright futures.

This year we have really expanded our work with local communities. As a result, more and more people are aware of child rights, the importance of education, and issues surrounding domestic violence and child marriage. We focus many of our activities on ensuring that children from the lowest castes have the some access to opportunities as any other child.

This December and January we are running HER Safe Winter campaign. If you can, please support our girls at the Safe House. We want to ensure that despite the very cold weather, they get to have a protected and happy winter, something that they really deserve. Thank you so much!

Happy Holidays everyone!
