Click here Thursday, 10 January 2019 Hills community laps up seven valley loops An unprecedented seven laps of the Piccadilly Valley by UCI WorldTour Riders on Thursday 17 January has given local community groups the opportunity to shine. In addition to the Uraidla High Road for the Santos Tour Down Under Subaru Stage 3 Finish, there will be plenty of action on show along the Piccadilly Valley route. With seven laps it will be a real battle of the peloton. "We couldn't be more proud of how our community has stepped up to take advantage of this incredible event," said Mayor Jan-Claire Wisdom. "Whatever spot you choose to take up around the race route, from Lobethal through to Uraidla, you are in for a real treat." The community Red Shed on Greenhill Road will be busy with children's activities, face painting, and a family setting. A location typically used to engage members of the community in hands-on social activities and encourage connections, the Red Shed will be a perfect place for multi-generational learning and fun. "The Red Shed has been a real success story since opening in 2015," said Community Development Officer, Miranda Hampton. "We hear all the time from participants that whilst they may have a shed at home, at the Red Shed they don't have to work alone. It's that sense of togetherness that we hope to share with the crowd for the Tour Down Under." The Uraidla Bowling Club will have a variety of food and beverage options available on site and in their adjacent car park. Local folk band Runebilly Rattle will have the crowd tapping their toes, and roving entertainers are also sure to delight. Plenty of local vendors will be nestled around the circuit alongside bricks-and-mortar establishments like the Uraidla Hotel and the Uraidla Pantry, including Jenny Cornish from Springwood Farm Berries, and Homage to Fromage, who will have the savoury tastebuds covered with a selection of local cheese and chartucerie. Summertown's Four Seeds Brownies will be stocked with tasty treats, and hills Italian cook Maria's Kitchen will have homemade meals to satisfy even the hungriest of cyclists. Piccadilly Vantage will be fuelled by community spirit at the Piccadilly Community Hall, where locals will celebrate the building's centenary year whilst watching the race from the shade of roadside oak trees. Summertown Netball Club will be raising funds for their club with a classic family BBQ and perfect roadside views of cyclists as they round the final corner into the Greenhill Road sprint. At the Woodhouse Activity Centre families are encouraged to arrive early for a free lock-in party. Local vendors, family activities and the best spot to see the challenge of Spring Gully Road's incline make this a one-of-a-kind way to experience the Santos Tour Down Under. With so many options and a huge show of community spirit, we look forward to welcoming the crowds to the hills. Adelaide Hills Council is hosting the start and finish of Santos Tour Down Under Subaru Stage 3, beginning in Lobethal and concluding in Uraidla after seven laps around the Piccadilly Valley.
