Alpha Iota Alumni Newsletter         -              Summer 2015

Brothers,

Happy summer to you all! As I sat down to put this newsletter together, I couldn't believe all of the exciting updates that we had to share with you about the state of Alpha Iota. To the newly graduated alumni brothers, welcome to the next thrilling portion of your Delta Sig experience. I will let the information below speak for itself. Please enjoy the updates, as well as take a look at the engagement opportunities toward the end of the newsletter. As our alumni base grows, the importance of your presence, guidance, and support to our Chapter grows as well.

Stay tuned for an additional update later this summer, featuring information about the Homecoming Weekend programming we have in the works. As always, feel free to send along feedback to better our communication. Enjoy the warmer weather and summer days!

Fraternally yours,

Dylan MacDowell

Words From Our President

Hello Alumni,

It is an exciting time to be involved with Alpha Iota.  This semester we were met with much success on numerous fronts.  As mentioned in our last newsletter, we are working hard to achieve the goals that will set us apart in the Greek community at Ohio State.  Aside from making some by-law revisions, we have made strides in streamlining communication and have seen increased participation from the chapter.  We are also incredibly proud of our philanthropy event, Dog Days, which raised over $1,000 this spring for the American Red Cross.  The end of the semester also brought a first place victory in the Greek Week Variety Show and an impressive trophy that can be added to our collection of ‘90s volleyball championships.

On a larger scale, Alpha Iota was recognized as Ohio State’s Most Improved Chapter during this year’s Greek Awards.  We are especially proud of this achievement and are excited for next year as we pursue Chapter of the Year recognition.  We are also excited for what lies ahead this summer.  This year’s convention will be held in New Orleans in July and the brothers who will be attending are very much looking forward to taking part in a celebration of brotherhood.  After convention we plan to hit the ground running in autumn semester and look to continue our success here at Ohio State.  As always, I urge all of you to stay in touch with Alpha Iota as we work towards becoming our university’s leading fraternity.

YITBOS,

Christopher Wrobel

P.S. If any of you will be attending convention as alumni, please email me at wrobel.24@osu.edu so we can connect you to our brothers who will also be in attendance.

Philanthropic News

It was just over a year ago that we had our first annual philanthropy event for the American Red Cross: Dog Days! Besides raising money for our national philanthropy, Dog Days aims to serve stressed out and overworked students before finals week. It was pretty clear that there doesn’t exist a better combination than Delta Sigs and Dogs so our chapter was thrilled to put on our second annual Dog Days event on April 23rd.

Through a combination of real dogs, grilled hot dogs, the wellness center, and a two man jousting inflatable, our chapter was ready to relieve stress for all in attendance. As our philanthropy events chairman, I set out to reach one of our chapter's short term goals: raise over 1000$ for the Red Cross. Luckily I didn't have to do it alone. By the time the day of the event came, our brothers rose to the occasion and set up shop on the South Oval. The weather wasn’t perfect, but we managed to avoid the rain and still hoped for decent attendance.

Throughout the day we had 9 different therapy and guide dogs volunteer their time! When it was all said and done, we waited patiently as the money in the cash box was counted. We are thrilled to have reached our goal and raise just over $1000 for the American Red Cross!

YITBOS,

John Bailey, Philanthropy Events Chairman
