Business as agents of social change |
The revolving door of political leadership in Australia provides an added layer of complexity and uncertainty for those tasked with trying to address the societal challenges we face. Whilst we recognise the role of the public sector is fundamental to enabling shared value creation, the current uncertainty also underlines the importance and opportunity for business to play a greater role as agents of social change.
Fortunately we don’t have to look far for inspiration of business leadership with the recent release of Fortune’s 2018 Change the World List. We also had the privilege last week of hearing about Lion’s leadership principles from CEO Stuart Irvine at our Insight event and how these principles guide the growth of their business. And finally we invite you all to join us in Melbourne 18 October at ZINC to celebrate the 2018 Shared Value Awards, which continue to inspire us each year.
The SVP continues to grow and this month we welcome Taylah Brendish, Project Coordinator, to the team. Taylah comes to us from social enterprise Yume and will support delivery of the SVP program and communications and media strategy. I encourage you to reach out to Taylah at tbrendish@sharedvalue.org.au.

Now in its fourth year, the ‘Fortune Change the World’ list celebrates the changemakers – those pioneering business leaders who look at social issues as material to their long-term success.
Congratulations to Enel - one of the world’s top producers of energy from renewables and number 28 on the list (and recently signed up as an SVP member).
We would also like to extend our congratulations to Wesfarmers who came in at number 13 on the list for their work in creating employment opportunities for indigenous Australians.
See who else has made a strategic shift towards shared value here.
