October Community Grants Newsletter.

Welcome to the October edition of my Community Grants Newsletter.

From federal, state and private grants to local competitions all having the emphasis on strengthening the electorate of Shortland and being involved.

Please share this information around and be mindful of the closing dates as a number of grants in this newsletter require applications to be submitted in the coming days.

Local Sport Grant Program.

Amount: $500 - $20,000
Closing Date: 7 October 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To increase regular and on-going participation opportunities in sport in NSW.

$50,000 will be allocated to all 93 electorates throughout NSW. The maximum amounts available are:

  • Sport Development: $2,000
  • Sport Events: $5,000
  • Sport Access: $5,000 
  • Sport Facility $15,000

NSW Infrastructure Grants

Amount: Up to $300,000
Closing Date: 12 October 2020
Funding Provider: NSW Government
Purpose: To support the building, renovation and fit-out of infrastructure.

Funding is available in four key categories:  

  • Arts & Culture: $50,000 to $200,000 available per project
  • Community Infrastructure: $10,000 to $200,000 available per project
  • Disaster Readiness: $10,000 to $200,000 available per project
  • Sport & Recreation: $100,000 to $300,000 available per project

    Australian Cricket Infrastructure Fund

    Amount: Minor grant: $1,000 - $10,000, Major grant: $10,001 - $30,000
    Closing Date: 19 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Cricket Australia
    Purpose: To develop quality cricket facilities that focus on growing cricket participation.

    Open to all clubs, associations, schools, councils and cricket facility managers. Typical projects include the construction or refurbishment of pitches, ovals, practice facilities, change rooms, pavilions and supporting infrastructure.

    National Science Week Grants – 2021

    Amount: $2,000 to $20,000
    Closing Date: 28 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources
    Purpose:To provide the opportunity for community participation in high profile science engagement activities across the nation.

    National Science Week provides the opportunity to:

    • Support diverse local organisations and government to work together on science engagement activities that have been adapted to local needs
    • Inspire wide community participation in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).

    Love Water grants

    Amount: $10,000
    Closing Date: 24 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Hunter Water
    Purpose: To help our community make more water conscious decisions through education and awareness.

    These grants will help to:

    • Boost community groups and organisations to identify and solve water conservation issues through practical solutions and projects
    • Inspire local schools, community groups and other organisations to undertake activities which tackle local environmental issues, to help protect and enhance our natural environment.

    The Dylan Alcott Foundation

    Amount: Undisclosed

    Funding Provider: The Dylan Alcott Foundation
    Purpose: To help enrich the lives of young people with disabilities by eliminating the barriers of entry to get involved in sport and study through mentoring, grants and scholarships.

    If you’re under 25, have a disability, have a personal, professional, vocational or sporting goal which you need help with, The Dylan Alcott Foundation want to get to know you.

    APPA-ASIC Moneysmart Grants for Principals - Round 3

    Amount: $3,000 - $5,000
    Closing Date: 16 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Australian Securities and Investments Commission
    Purpose: ASIC's Moneysmart for teachers program provides teachers with professional learning and classroom resources to support delivery of financial literacy education in the classroom.

    To be eligible you must be a principal of a primary school in an Australian State or Territory.

    Lake Art Prize 2020 - Entries Now Open

    Amount: $25,000
    Closing Date: 23 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Lake Macquarie City Council
    Purpose: A new biennial National Acquisitive Prize for Contemporary Australian Art.

    Australian artists, aged 18 years and over, are invited to submit works which reflect on the theme 'Where there is Water'. Contending artworks will be across all media and can take any form, including sculpture, painting, drawing, photomedia, installation, sound, and a single piece or multi-piece artwork.

    Movember Social Connections Challenge

    Amount: $140,000 to $250,000 per idea
    Closing Date: 15 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Social Connections
    Purpose: To address the mental health risks of vulnerable men by exploring innovative solutions that can potentially be scaled for long-term impact.

    • Stage 1: Ideation - A selection panel will shortlist the most promising ideas to be shared for co-development. Each idea that is selected for co-development will receive an initial $10,000 to license their idea
    • Stage 2: Co-Development - $140,000 to $250,000 per idea

    Project Defib – Defibrillator Subsidies

    Every sporting club in Australia has access to a $1,250 subsidy. This will enable sporting clubs to safeguard their players, spectators & coaches with the most comprehensive defibrillator program.  Grants are available for up to 50 per cent of the AED package.

    Certificate of Appreciation

    Closing Date: Ongoing
    Funding Provider: The Department of Veteran Affairs
    Purpose:  Issued as a national gesture of thanks for military service.

    Are you a veteran or a veteran's family member? If so, you may be eligible for a Certificate of Appreciation which are issued as a national gesture of thanks to those who served overseas in Australia’s Defence Forces from the Second World War on, or on the home front during WWII.

    St.George Foundation

    Amount: $50,000
    Closing Date: Undisclosed
    Funding Provider: St George Foundation
    Purpose: To support grassroots projects that brighten the lives of children experiencing disadvantage.

    St.George Foundation has two Community Grant funding rounds each year. In order to help little dragons soar they:

    • Invest in projects that will improve the lives of children in Australia who are experiencing a physical, social or economic disadvantage.
    • Partner with small community organisations who attract little funding from government and who aren’t big enough to generate significant fundraising income on their own.

    Newcastle Permanent Sponsorship

    Amount: Undisclosed

    Funding Provider: Newcastle Permanent Building Society
    Purpose: To partner with many great organisations and support a range of fundraising initiatives that are doing a lot of good in the local community.

    Newcastle Permanent will generally only sponsor community events, activities or programs that support and strengthen the communities through:

    • Junior sport
    • Children’s education
    • Major community events which have broad appeal to the local community, particularly families

    National Landcare Program: Smart Farms Small Grants Round 4

    Amount: Total pool $43.5 million
    Closing Date: 9 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment
    Purpose: To deliver services under the National Landcare Program.

    Smart Farms Small Grants is an open, competitive, grant opportunity to support projects to increase farming, forestry and fishing communities’ awareness, knowledge, skills and capacity to adopt best practice sustainable agriculture.

    Australian Cultural Diplomacy Grants Program Round 2

    Amount: $10,000 to $60,000
    Closing Date: 16 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
    Purpose:To promote Australia's cultural and creative industries overseas; to establish networks; and support ongoing collaborations and exchange.

    • Support the economic and social recovery efforts of the Australian creative industry sector and communities adversely affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and/or the 2019-2020 bushfires
    • Promote Australia’s economic, artistic and cultural assets to an international audience
    • Influence perceptions of Australia at home and abroad
    • Build people-to-people and /or institutional links internationally

    Aurizon Community Giving Fund

    Amount: $20,000
    Closing Date: 23 October 2020
    Funding Provider: Aurizon 
    Purpose: To support communities in the areas of: Health & Wellbeing; Community Safety; the Environment and Education

    The Aurizon Community Giving Fund is focused on the broad areas of:

    • Health and wellbeing
    • community safety
    • Environment
    • Education

    Recreational Fishing Trust Grants

    Amount: Small projects under $10,000, large projects over $10,000
    Closing Date: Undisclosed
    Funding Provider: NSW Department of Primary Industries
    Purpose: To support the fishing community.

    Anyone can apply for funding from the Recreational Fishing Trusts, including fishing organisations, universities, councils, community groups, and individuals for:

    • Small projects - seeking less than $10,000 of funding
    • Large projects - seeking more than $10,000 of funding

    These grants can fund artificial reefs, fishing platforms, fish cleaning tables, fishing surveys and community education.
