Grade characteristics result from the blend of CBN and binder material. A high CBN content will provide improved strength and toughness which increases the inserts resistance to breakage. A low CBN content and high ceramic binder improves the heat resistance and results in a grade with more wear resistance

Always preferred to reduce the chances of edge chipping. But, these will produce increased cutting forces, temperatures and the possibility of tool/workpiece deflection.

Sharp edge geometries

Continuous finishing small boring applications in hardened material
Finishing unstable components without interruptions
Finishing gray cast iron parts

Sharp positive and neutral insert geometries will produce lower cutting forces, temperatures and tool / workpiece deflection. This edge will be weaker and therefore less resistant to impacts and cutting forces.
