Productivity Commission Report

It is unsurprising and inspiring to see that the Productivity Commission’s final report into mental health has found (among many other things) that the workplace has a significant role to play when it comes to preventing instances of mental ill health as well as in the recovery for people who are affected. If you are receiving this newsletter, you probably already knew this and are equally as reassured that preventative methods are the focus for the Productivity Commission’s recommendations. Recommendation seven of the report focuses entirely on Workplaces – Equip workplaces to be mentally healthy – and there are some specific actions focusing on the need to elevate psychological health and safety, creating minimum standards for EAP providers, and having “No Liability treatment for mental health related workers compensation claims".

WayAhead are proud to have been involved in the submission process for this report. You can view WayAhead's formal response to the report on our website. You can also see the submission we did on the draft report back in 2019 here. We want to thank all our Workplaces members who provided feedback and supported the inclusion of workplaces on the agenda.  One of the great things I see about this report for use in the short term, is an extra piece of evidence for workplaces to use when validating the creation of mental health prevention strategies and initiatives in the workplace.
