As most of you are aware, Firefighters Burn Institute Executive Director, Jim Doucette, retired at the end of 2016. I now have the honor and privilege to serve as the new Executive Director for this amazing organization. Having served over thirty-three years in the fire service, I realized that I wanted to do more to help our firefighters, our burn survivors, and our community once I retired. After being involved with FFBI for numerous years at the Advisory Board level, I am overjoyed to continue my journey as FFBI’s new Executive Director. |
The Firefighters Burn Institute was founded by Sacramento Fire Captain Cliff Haskell and the Sacramento Area Fire Fighters Local 522 in 1973, following a tragic plane crash that resulted in the death of 22 people and serious burns to many others. Tapping into the intrinsic motivation of every firefighter, Cliff started a foundation that today honors the hard work he and his fellow firefighters did to secure burn care in the region. The Firefighters Burn Institute is a model for charities across the country. In addition, the level of burn care received at the Firefighters Burn Institute Regional Burn Center and the Shriners Hospital for Children, Sacramento, is second to none.
I am both enthusiastic and honored to work for this amazing organization and with the dedicated people who help us do what we do. While we can’t prevent all burns from happening, the FFBI is committed to doing more to help burn survivors build the resilience to recover quickly and reintegrate with family, school, work and society. I will do everything in my power to ensure that the mission and goals of the FFBI are successfully met and that Cliff’s vision for this charity is never lost.
