The High School Inaugural MUN conference

From the 21-22 April The High School hosted its inaugural Model Unitd Nations conference.  Delegations from numerous schools attended, debating resolutions such as The Question of Palestine, China's influence on African trade, and so on.  On Friday evening we ejoyed a fantastic speech from past pupil Chloe Manahan (HSD, 2009-15) who is the National Chairperson of Labour Youth.  On Friday evening and Saturday morning delegates gathered in their committee rooms and began to debate.   On Saturday afternoon the General Assembly began and all delegates went to The Reynolds Hall to pass or defeat the resolutions.  The closing ceremony was lead by Secretary General, James Kinsella and Presidents of General Assembly, Katie Moore and Hannah Kerr.  Awards were presented to distinguished delegates and delegations.  The High School's Oscar Hannon Smith (on the historical committee) received an award.  Many thanks to the secretariat and security teams and to Debbie Ogunkayode who made sure everything ran smoothly over the course of two days.

Form 5 Careers Evening

On 17 April, Form 5 pupils participated in a careers evening featuring a range of mock interviews conducted by parent volunteers at The High School.  Some pupils were shaking with nerves and others were teeming with confidence as we began.  When we entered the interview rooms we were greeted by a parent with a welcoming smile and a copy of our CV.  At this moment all nerves seemed to fade away and the interview began.  During the interview pupils were asked a variety of different questions with some interviewers allowing the interviewees to ask questions of their own.  Afterwards we were invited back into the interview rooms where we received positive and extremely useful feedback from the interviewers on how well we spoke and how we presented ourselves.  They also commented on our confidence levels and the quality of our CVs.  The sense of achievement afterwards was immense and a joy to witness.  Later on in the evening pupils and teachers had a chance to mingle allowing for more feedback and self-evaluation.  I think that this was an exceptional experience and one I will not forget any time soon.
