Form 5 pupils brought tours of visitors around the main school building, Techical Block, Music Block, Gymnasium, and Archive. There they were met by helpful members of staff who spoke passionately about their subjects and answered the many questions that came their way. Pupils demonstrated their knowledge on an array of topics and issues. They presented gymnastic displays, performed musical pieces, sang, baked, stitched, painted, and sanded while others encouraged visiting pupils to participate in quizzes and games, and to imagine - for a couple of hours at least - what it will be like to attend The High School. The building was a hive of colourful activity and hummed with giddy excitement all evening. We hope that it revealed just a little of what we do at The High School and that our visitors enjoyed themselves half as much as we did! Interprovincial VictoryLast weekend, six High School pupils represented Leinster at the Hockey School-Boys' Interprovincial Championship in Dublin, participating in Under 16 and Under 18 categories. The younger team had an enjoyable but disappointing weekend in terms of results, while the older team had a terrific tournament and went on to win the cup. It was a fantastic weekend of hockey and the boys felt privileged to play and represent their province. National Ploughing ChampionshipsMs Bergin and Ms Garnett brought all senior Home Economics pupils to the National Ploughing Championships last week. It was a great day out as there was so much to see and do. With cooking shows, sheep sheering, rides and great food, there was plenty of variety to interest everyone. The event managers and stall owners were very inclusive and made it a priority to involve and interest all audiences. There were lots of big names exhibiting products and taking part in demonstrations such as author and celebrated chef, Rachel Allen. All in all it was a fantastic day out! High School ShopThere are lots of items available to purchase at The High School online Sports Uniform Shop. Just visit our website and click on the 'Sports' tab. The Faithful FewThere was a high turnout of parents last Saturday to watch the Senior Girls' hockey team take on St Gerard's School in the second league match of the season. The High School won 1-0, the only goal of the game scored by Orla Prendergast. As always, the support of parents is much appreciated. GAA Winning TeamWe were delighted to see Mia Jennings (HSD, 2011-17) take her place on the Ladies All-Ireland winning squad last week. You might remember that Mia played for Dublin in the All-Ireland final last year, while still in 6th Form. Despite studying Social Sciences at UCD, Mia still has time to return to HSD to coach hockey with Form 1 girls. She is a fantastic role model for all of our pupils. Senior DramaWho could forget seeing Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze star in the 1990 movie classic, Ghost? Well, this year's Senior Drama production is Ghost - The Musical and rehearsals are already underway. The backstage crew is busy designing sets and orchestrating complicated scene changes. We recommend that you put the dates in your diary straight away (16-18 November) because you won't want to miss this supernatural production! |
