Despite being one of the most well-known procedures, there are many misconceptions around liposuction. Dr Matthew Peters explains who makes a good candidate (in our video above) and our Facebook and Instagram profiles try to dispel some of the myths. We’re also very excited to announce that Dr Andrew Hadj has joined the Valley Plastic Surgery team. Dr Hadj is a welcome addition to the practice and has some interesting experiences and learnings from around the world to share. You can read more about Dr Hadj here. Welcoming Dr Andrew Hadj to the teamDr Andrew Hadj is a well-versed plastic surgeon who specialises in the areas of hand surgery, degenerative joint conditions, skin cancer surgery, breast and reconstructive surgery, restorative facial surgery and upper and lower limb reconstructive trauma surgery. “Whether it is skin surgery, facial surgery, trauma surgery or aesthetic surgery, my greatest satisfaction is when a patient’s expectations are surpassed and their quality of function, their quality of life and their outcomes are as ideal as can be.” After completing his degree in medicine and medical training in Victoria, he then went on to further his specialised training with positions at Alfred Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital, Princess Alexandra Hospital and the Mater Hospital. Dr Hadj has completed his fellowship in Hand Surgery at Guys’ and St Thomas’ Hospital, London before returning to Australia in 2018 to become the staff specialist Plastics and Reconstructive Surgeon at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and Princess Alexandra Hospital. Patient Safety IS Regulated by LawWe recently saw plastic surgery procedures being brought into question by the media, along with the longer-term lifestyle effects and possible side effects that plastic surgery may have for some patients. The message from the media, patients and peak industry advocates was clear; plastic surgery should only be performed by an approved Specialist Plastic Surgeon, who have a minimum of 12 years medical and surgical education, and 5 years of specialist postgraduate training. Only Specialist Plastic Surgeons are accredited by the Commonwealth Government of Australia, through the Australian Medical Council, to perform all reconstructive and cosmetic plastic surgery. Through their website, the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons will help prepare you to find an accredited Specialist Plastic Surgeon and provide you with important information to make your decision easier.
