Dear subscriber,

Welcome to this week's edition of Sydney Health Weekly! We are constantly working on making your news as targeted and relevant as possible and welcome your feedback to editor@cesphn.com.au.

QI&CPD triennium ends 31 December 2019 - how are you progressing?

As we are coming to the end of the triennium, now is a great time to review your progress and complete any outstanding requirements. As a reminder, the 2017-19 triennium requires a minimum of 130 points comprising:

  • two Category 1 activities, one of which must be a quality improvement activity
  • one CPR activity.

For more information on the QI&CPD 2017–19 triennium, visit the RACGP website.

Exciting news for Sydney CBD regarding BreastScreen NSW

Women living and working in the CBD now have two locations to access free breast screening in the heart of Sydney. BreastScreen NSW will be providing free breast screening at:

  • David Jones Rose Clinic Elizabeth Street - Level 4, 86-108 Castlereagh Street, Sydney
  • Sydney BreastScreen Sydney Hospital – Nightingale Wing, Macquarie Street, Sydney

Women can book their free screening mammogram with BreastScreen NSW. The service is free every two years for all women aged 40 years and over. Women 50 to 74 years of age are particularly encouraged to attend. We now know that 1 in 8 women in NSW will develop breast cancer in their lifetime, so early detection is vital. We also know that 9 out of 10 women diagnosed with breast cancer have no known family history. Having a regular mammogram and being breast aware is important for women with a known family history of breast cancer, and women with no known history.

Seeking mental health professionals to complete survey

This study - 'The decision-making preferences of clinicians in the detection of depression' - investigates how different signs of Major Depressive Disorder are weighted by clinicians in the assessment process. Diagnostic guidelines assume that diagnostic criteria are equally important and interchangeable. However, we contend that clinicians use clinical intuition and judgement to weight indicators differentially. This may improve diagnosis. We are interested in ascertaining how clinicians integrate clinical context and diagnostic criteria when making diagnostic decisions. The survey comprises 20  questions where you will make clinical decisions based on hypothetical case information and questions pertaining to professional background information. This will take approximately 15 minutes.
