WCU PodCats Podcast

The WCU PodCats podcast is the official podcast of Western Carolina University’s Office of Admission.  The weekly show is hosted by Associate Director of Undergraduate Admission Patrick Frazier (’07, ’11) and Senior Assistant Director of Undergraduate Admission Josh Thompson (’08, ’11).  Josh and Patrick recently celebrated the show’s one year anniversary in August and have covered a variety of topics over the last 15 months including: Admissions Tips, Alumni Interviews, Staff and Student spotlights, Catamount Athletics, and much more.  To our knowledge no other College or University in the US produces a weekly show promoting all aspects of their school like The PodCats do.  The podcasts can be found on iTunes, iTunesU, http://podcats.wcu.edu, Facebook, and Twitter.  If you are interested in promoting a new degree, program, event, etc. on the show (new episodes premiere every Tuesday) please contact Josh (jthompson@email.wcu.edu) or Patrick (pfrazier@email.wcu.edu) as they are always looking for ways to reach more people and share new information.

Holiday Mail for Heroes Campaign

This year WCU’s Military Student Services is offering three ways to support the Holiday Mail for Heroes effort:

  • Donate Cards.  There will be drop off locations around campus and at the Military Student Services Offices.  You can drop off cards at the One Stop, at the mail center in the UC, Hunter Library, HHS, and Biltmore Park until Thanksgiving, so get your cards together and bring them in!

  • Sign Cards.  Cards will be available for you to sign on Tuesday, November 22nd, on the second floor of the UC near the mail center from 9am-1pm.  Make a quick stop by the booth to spread some holiday cheer.

  • Finally, if you have a family member, know a service member, or are a service member who will not be with family during the holidays, let us know!  We will prepare a holiday package and send it to them.  Contact Military Student Services directly for more information (227-3074).

Wildfire Updates

Given the current wildfire situation, if any of your employees have been or are being directly impacted by the fires, please contact Anne Banks in the Office of Human Resources and Payroll at ext. 2794 (ambanks@wcu.edu).  Anne will advise employees on available leave resources to assist them in handling any issues they may be experiencing as a direct result of the wildfires.

I received my Bachelor of Arts from Columbia College, with special training abroad in Angers, France at Universite Catholique de L'Ouest.

What is your favorite thing about working at WCU?
My favorite thing about working at WCU is brainstorming creative solutions to meet the marketing needs of the departments on campus to target WCU.

Senator Spotlight:
Dean Paulk

What is your job title and department?
I am the Internship Coordinator for the Center for Career & Professional Development.

Where are you from?
I am from Olivia, NC (a very small town near Fayetteville and Ft. Bragg).

How long have you worked at WCU?
I have been at WCU since 2001.  I came here for my undergrad, graduated, moved to Maryland for 2 years, and then came back once I realized how much I missed the NC mountains and that they had become home.  I started working at WCU in 2008 in the College of Business as the Administrative Support Associate for the Management department.  I left that position in 2012 for personal reasons, and started working for the Center for Career & Professional Development in 2013 as the Administrative Support Specialist.  In 2015, I moved into the Internship Coordinator role.

What is your academic background?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Work and am currently working on my Master’s degree in Higher Education Student Affairs.

What is your favorite thing about working at WCU?
My favorite part is the people, hands down.  The faculty and staff at WCU are top-notch and a great group of people to work with.  When I was in my undergrad here at WCU, I had an amazing experience with staff and faculty members, and I decided then that I really wanted to work in Higher Education, and once I arrived back in the area, I made that my goal.  A very close second is the area.  I’m a big nature lover, and this area is full of breathtaking views and adventure!
