Senator Spotlight:
Dean PaulkWhat is your job title and department?
I am the Internship Coordinator for the Center for Career & Professional Development. Where are you from?
I am from Olivia, NC (a very small town near Fayetteville and Ft. Bragg). How long have you worked at WCU?
I have been at WCU since 2001. I came here for my undergrad, graduated, moved to Maryland for 2 years, and then came back once I realized how much I missed the NC mountains and that they had become home. I started working at WCU in 2008 in the College of Business as the Administrative Support Associate for the Management department. I left that position in 2012 for personal reasons, and started working for the Center for Career & Professional Development in 2013 as the Administrative Support Specialist. In 2015, I moved into the Internship Coordinator role. What is your academic background?
I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology with a minor in Social Work and am currently working on my Master’s degree in Higher Education Student Affairs. What is your favorite thing about working at WCU?
My favorite part is the people, hands down. The faculty and staff at WCU are top-notch and a great group of people to work with. When I was in my undergrad here at WCU, I had an amazing experience with staff and faculty members, and I decided then that I really wanted to work in Higher Education, and once I arrived back in the area, I made that my goal. A very close second is the area. I’m a big nature lover, and this area is full of breathtaking views and adventure!
