Happy New Year!

We are welcoming 2015 with lots of news and lots of dance...I mean, what else would you expect.

• We are now hosting a multitude of classes at two locations - Whyte Ave and now, Downtown!
• More classes and more choices! We've significantly expanded. We now have more levels, more days and times, and have added a few new, great teachers to boot. Register early to avoid any disappointment.
• We are moving this spring to a much bigger, better space... just down the street. Come March, our new Sugar Foot Ballroom will be relocated down the street to 10506 – 81 Avenue.

Swing 1 Dance Party Class

What's this all about?

When swing dancing first came onto the scene, there were no lessons — people often learned this dance while partying in the nightclubs and ballrooms of Harlem. The Swing Dance Party class recreates a bit of that, and uses a casual party environment to teach you to dance!

There will be specific content and a basic structure to every class, but emphasis will be on getting you to practice what you can rather than perfect every move and technique. As a longer weekly class (approx. 2 hours), we are leaving more time for one-on-one time with the instructors and TAs, social dancing, relaxing and socializing. As we teach the course, instruction will be somewhat minimalist, in favour of getting you practicing and dancing socially to vintage music. From time to time we will touch on topics that influence the dance, like etiquette, music, and even a bit of jazz history.

This course aims to reveal the culture of swing and how it was always intended to be danced: socially, and for fun!

Tea Time Cabaret

Sunday, January 25

3:00-9:00pm @ Sugar Foot Ballroom

Sugar Swing is putting on a Cabaret. We are breaking up the two acts with some social dancing, and then after the final act we will set up some food for people to munch on, tea to sip on and more music to dance to.

Don't forget to bring your own mug for some tasty tea!

Sweet Bal Jam

Edmonton, AB, Feb 20-23

“Sweet Bal Jam” is the start of something new and exciting with Balboa. We want this gorgeous swing dance to grow, so we’re inviting the Prairie community of Balboa dancers together for one fantastic weekend. The event celebrates its second year with instructors David Rehm from Washington DC and Laura Keat from Orange County, LA, California. Plus, we are pleased to welcome special guest Balboa deejays and dancers from Vancouver, Matt Lam and Angie Weddell!
