No images? Click here With only two weeks to go until you join us, we thought this would be a good time to explain what your college has to offer. All colleges offer the opportunity to play sport, stand for election, volunteer in the college and wider community, organise events or just relax and socialise. All of this is facilitated by your college team and elected student committee in collaboration with YUSU, our Students' Union. College SportCollege sport is a great way to meet people, make friends, try a new sport or keep going with a sport you already enjoy. You don’t have to play competitively but if you want to, you could get involved in inter-college tournaments and the yearly varsity fixture against the University of Durham. College Sport membership costs £18 per year providing you access to every sport’s team within your college. "There’s a place for everyone in college sports here in Langwith; it is so inclusive and has hands down made my University experience. It’s a great way to meet like minded people as well as get involved with college life!" Lily Parson 3rd Year, Netball President ![]() College Events and ActivitiesAll colleges host regular events and activities for students to get involved, try new things and meet new people. At Langwith College we're proud of the great variety of events that we run throughout the term. From the Scott Award's fantastic arts workshops, Book Club and exhibitions, to our Green Impact team running regular workshops and campaigning to make Langwith one of the greenest, ethically aware Colleges at York, there's something for everyone. All of these events are run by students for students and that's what makes Langwith so special. If you have a talent or skill you want to share, the College Team is always welcome to new ideas, just let us know. Langwith College Student AssociationAll undergraduate college members elect, and are represented by, a College Student Association. They have organised a warm welcome for you, and will continue to organise events and support college activities throughout your time in Langwith. You’ll find out more about weekly events and opportunities to get involved in the association once you arrive. ![]() “Make sure you make the most of every opportunity that Langwith offers, regardless of whether it’s joining a college sports team or attending an events or singing your heart out at karaoke. Before you know it you'll be shouting Langwith til I die!” - James Cook Treasurer of the LCSA STYCsAs soon as you arrive in College, you will be greeted by STYCs (Second and Third Year Contacts). STYCs are coordinated by the student committee and have volunteered to make sure you receive a warm welcome. They provide a good example of what colleges are all about - student led communities. “STYC’s are a great system here at York, they allow for students to meet other like minded individuals and ask them what life in York is like. Being a STYC was the best decision I made its allow me to make friends for life who I otherwise may never have met and allowed me to give back to Langwith.” Ava Hawkins 3rd year Social Policy ![]() STYMsSecond and Third Year Mentors (STYMs) are trained volunteers who offer all new resident undergraduates peer support throughout their first year. Providing a listening ear, they are friendly and approachable and will help your transition into university and independent living.
