Kia ora,
Statistics New Zealand has just released data from the 2018 Census, and there are plenty of Asia-related stats to note. The Asian ethnic group remains the third-largest in New Zealand, with 15.1 per cent of the population identifying with at least one Asian ethnicity (up from 11.8 per cent in 2013).
One thing we found particularly interesting was the huge growth in the Filipino population in New Zealand — 72,612 compared to 40,350 in 2013. To find out more about the "Kiwinoy" community, have a read of this feature.
As this week is New Zealand Chinese Language Week, it's worth highlighting there are 95,253 speakers of Northern Chinese (which includes Mandarin), making it our fourth most spoken language.
