GP endorsement letter - Bowel cancer screening
The National Bowel Cancer Screening Program saves lives - but it needs the support of general practices! The evidence is clear that a recommendation from a primary healthcare provider is an important motivator for participation in bowel cancer screening. If participation rates could reach 60 per cent in Australia, over 83,800 lives could be saved by 2040.

Clarification of cervical cancer symptoms
Some healthcare providers are using low thresholds to determine whether a participant shows symptoms indicative of cervical cancer. Pathology laboratories are getting requests for co-tests for participants with symptoms that are usually not indicative of cervical cancer. In order to address this issue, a set of more specific symptoms suggestive of cervical cancer has been developed by the National Cervical Screening Program clinical advisors.

Is your practice data ready?
Data analysis in primary care will be critical for the new QI PIP and the 5th Edition RACGP Standards. We have new tools available for free to get your practice ready to look at your data and make decisions on quality improvement. We only have a limited number of free licences available, so ensure you get in quickly to get ready for the changes that are coming over the next 12 months.

Do you use shared care planning tools?
UNSW is running a small study on practice’s experiences using shared care planning tools. The researchers would like to conduct interviews with GP Principals, Practice Managers and Practice Nurses about their experiences (positive and negative). The interviews will take between 30 minutes to one hour, and practices will be reimbursed for their time. Please contact Liam Shanahan on l.shanahan@cesphn.org.au for further information or to register your interest.
